Bulgari makes beautiful bags and although the Serpenti range is (deservedly) well regarded, I decided that my first Bulgari bag purchase would be the Roma bag in the larger size. The catch: it was very hard to find. The SA at Bulgari's store in Zurich had to search for quite a while to locate one -- he eventually sourced the color and size I wanted from Ireland. I was able to pick it up in mid-December, a few weeks after I'd first visited the Zurich store.

Service at the store was wonderful. Friendly and helpful and of course the champagne was served early in the visit. (a good, real champagne, not Prosecco). There wasn't much traffic in the store the day I visited so my helpful SA showed me some of their most beautiful pieces (and expensive -- a few in the mid--to-high 6 figure price range). After the second glass of champagne my Roma was boxed up and ready to go.

Now for the review: the quality is impeccable. The materials and craftmanship are exactly what I'd want from a premium brand. The shoulder strap is solid and doesn't slip (one of my complaints about some bag brands today is that their shoulder straps are increasingly flimsy). The closure is a little stiff but won't pop open unexpectedly once it's snapped shut.

Downsides? The bag doesn't hold as much as I'd hoped. The shape and folds eat up interior space. I have to use a compact wallet or even a mini wallet plus a card holder that I put in the zippered compartment.

This isn't a downside, per se, but the Roma isn't a casual bag. It's perfect for dinners at nice restaurants, wandering the Avenue Montaigne, having drinks at an upscale bar, etc. I'm not taking it to the grocery store to pick up some eggs (no matter how expensive those eggs are!)

Congratulations on your new bag! It’s a beautiful shape and style and the leather looks impeccable. Wear it in good health
