Which would you pick for a first quota bag between these two: Birkin 30 GHW togo in vermillion vs Kelly 28 retourne PHW tadelakt in bleu electrique. I know they’re both very different bags but I can’t make up my mind.

I don’t shy away from bright colors because I wear a lot of neutrals but I’d like some versatility in such an expensive purchase. I love and buy red H bags but get more wear out of my neutral bags like a tan Loewe puzzle and etain H Evelyn. I have 3 red bags already though will probably sell one to compensate if I purchased the red B.

Will add photos in second comment.. can’t get it to work now.

I love both colours. They look equally fun and quite casual (since the K is a returne). I don't think I have seen BE K in Tadelekt before, but the leather is certainly golf to be more delicate than Togo.

The order of priorities I see them:

Would you rather have a K or a B?
Do you prefer a casual/robust or elegant/delicate leather
Not all neutrals are the same. Will red or blue suit your wardrobe better?
Do you prefer ghw or phw?

Oops, I meant to say the Kelly is a sellier. So to add to your list of very good questions: do I want a casual look or a dressier look? 😅 I’m hopelessly indecisive. I have more casual purses, and many in clemence, than dressy. I might have only 2 dressy purses in my collection of 10 or so… maybe I need more variety.

I thought so from the pic, I wondered if the bag wasn't the one in question.

I think the Tadelakt is more special in many ways, but you may wear it less often due to the dressiness of the Sellier and the leather. Again, it depends on your wardrobe and lifestyle.

I'm in a phase of only wanting bags I can use a lot. But, that's also because I have lots of special bags I need to take care of by choosing their outings more carefully. It's really reassuring having a bag you don't have to consider the weather, the journey etc.

On the other hand, I don't think you will come across a BE, Tad, K Sellier 28 very often. That's a rarity. There will be other red Togo B 30s.

I don't think colour is the question.
You are happy with colour; you are happy with these colours.
I know which colour I prefer, but that doesn't make it the best advice for you.

Perhaps it might be helpful to let the style of the bag guide your decision.
You admit that they are very different bags - fulfilling different functions.
So which style do you think would give you the most use, the most enjoyment?
You have to be honest with yourself - your answer - your decision.

Choose the one that you would use the most, but since you have a nice collection of red H bags, I, personally, would go for the BE Kelly for variety. However, you should evaluate which option best suits your needs and not what everyone else thinks you should get. (That kelly is dreamy.)

I’m a little more attracted to the Birkin aesthetically but as a mom of a toddler I might get more use out of the Kelly for a few years… they are both gorgeous bags. What papertiger said about it being more rare to come across this particular Kelly while there will always be a red Birkin does resonate, since I have seen many many red Birkins on the resale market (in my price range).

Do you mean in a resale sense or like the colors are dated to wear?

I'm not sure where @onlyk is getting her data but IMO, both colours are highly desirable in the global H market.

Globally, in terms of colour in 'regular' leathers, only pink carries more clout currently, but then condition and size has to be factored in too. On average, smaller bags still carry a higher resale price tag but that doesn't mean we have to only look to buy smaller bags. We have to choose what we like and will use.

The market usually follows fashion, and red is huge right now, and second year in a row. Blue Jean is the only colour that I've seen under market value. Wonderlabel predicted "Bold and vibrant colors like bright orange, lively green, and vibrant blue will also play a significant role in the fashion year 2024" and we are only in the beginnings of '25.

Artcuriel/Collectors Square has a graph of resale performance factored in by collection line, obviously they can only go by their own data which is tempered by location (France).

As far as I know no company has yet broken down performance via colour, but it would be interesting. I still think most people prioritise price, model, size and condition over any colour.

Thank you so much for the advice, everyone (especially @papertiger for the wise words). I went ahead with the bleu electrique! To tone down the brightness a bit, I added a darker twilly (still pops with yellow trim). The color photographs much brighter than it appears in real life — a good thing for me as I think it’ll be a wearable color.
