So I’ve seen floating around several threads the fashion industries categories for brands. And all those lists have categories of “better” and “bridge” that sit between contemporary and designer. I was wondering what are some examples of brands that would fit into these categories.

Contemporary for me I’ve always assumed is Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and then designed is the list of the premier brands on TPF. However, I don’t know which brands would sit in those categories between the two. Can anyone help clarify? Is it brands like Mulberry, Loewe, etc., that on TPF are considered designer, but perhaps in the industry is not? Or is it brands not mentioned here?

For me, "Bridge" brands would be brands that are not as widely available (or as immediately recognizable) as contemporary brands and tend to not go on sale as much. The bags may have unique, identifiable design elements that set them apart and overall a more minimalist aesthetic (I find most contemporary brands to be kind of "loud")

The price point is in the range of contemporary brands but may also be a little higher for certain pieces.

For me that would include Polène, Strathberry, Leo et Violette, Mansur Gavriel, Demellier, Aspinal, Danse Lente

My list of 'Bridge Brands' would include Fount, Polene, Aspinal of London, Frye, Marc Cross, The Row, Mulberry, Lowe.

To me Frye I would put in the same category as a brand like fossil (so contemporary or sub). They make nice quality goods, but i don’t find their designs that compelling. However, that could be a personal thing.

I have been curious where brands that range from the $500-$1500 price point tend to land. Srathberry, Mulberry, and Wandler, for example, tend to be quite a bit more expensive that most contemporary brands. But, i definitely wouldn’t consider them designer.
