Hello there -
I need your opinion on whether I should get a pre-loved or brand new Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Speedy Bandouliere 25. The price of the new one is making me think twice but the pre-loved prices are also up there. I recently got a pre-loved one for $1,603, it is in very good condition. Little wear on the bottom sides and corners. The hardware is bright and shiny with minor wear. It comes with the original strap, lock, keys, and dust bag and is made in France, year made is 2018. I am still able to return the bag if I choose to at a legitimate, reputable luxury goods website. The brand new one I bought at the Louis Vuitton website. I am going to receive it tomorrow. The total cost is $1,951. The pre-loved bag looks great, it is only 3 years old. I will know where the new one is made by tomorrow. I am particular about where it is made. I really hope the new one is made in France. The price difference between the two is $348. With all things considered, resale value, the current prices, condition, beauty, and functionality which bag am I better off keeping and the reason why? Thank you!

I would send back the used one (348$ is a tiny amount of savings considering the bag already has signs of wear). I have had my speedy since 2008 and there's no signs of rubbing on the corners (used x-body with a strap). However one point worth mentioning is that since your production year is 2018, you should have the old style leather and chaps rather than the newer padded chaps and matte leather. Therefore you might prefer one aesthetic over the other, which might help you decide!

Agree with @Christofle and @Loriad that price difference is only a "discount" of 17.8%.
Back when buying pre-loved was more of a "bargain price" I would get excellent condition bags for 40-60% off.

In 2017, I bought a pre-loved excellent condition LV lock me bag for 40% off that came with the box, dust bag and was pretty much brand new (I saw no wear and tear). I was able to sell it for a little more the same price I bought it last year.

I know with price increases happening, it is frustrating and makes our wallets (and hearts) sad, but the price now is the price now. Just like the price of gas in the 1950s was 27-30 cents a gallon.
To compare prices and "discounts", I prefer to look at changes in percentages vs dollar amount.

Random talk:
And with buying from the store, it is guaranteed authentic (if that is a concern for you, depends for each person). Also, you can hold LV accountable for any quality issues (though it may not be easy depending on who you're working with) but I've read too many horror stories of people getting ghosted, deceived, ignored, etc. when they want to tell a 3rd party seller that there are damages or issues or want to do a return etc. However, that is based on your level of comfort with things like this.
While I fortunately have not had any issues buying from consignment in the past, with so many super fakes and hiked prices on the pre-loved market currently, it's not something I'm willing to risk or want to deal with. For now, I like to buy from stores directly and hold them accountable if appropriate, and the worst case scenario is that I am not satisfied and return it and get my money back.

Yup, I agree with all comments above. I would keep the brand new one for $348 more and you will be the first owner. Also, you have your guarantee with LV for the first year. But let wait until you receive it first, hopefully it made in France like you want it. I have to return 2 times before I end up keeping the one I like.

I agree with everyone! $348 is too small a price to compromise on a used one. If you buy a new one just for 17% more, you will get the whole experience of buying at the boutique and ask for perfume samples and enjoy you luxury shopping day. Also you know you are the original owner, sooooo worth the small extra money!

Thanks everyone! I am returning the new one due to bad stitching on the top corner of the bag. Two stitches that should be hidden are totally exposed, quite obvious since on the top. Btw, it's made in the USA. As for the pre-loved one, it looks great, there is some yellowing on the brass rings which can be polished, no rust on hardware, zipper pulls looks almost new when I compare it to the brand new one, the canvas looks very good, little wear on the bottom 4 corners, about 10 to 15 % darkening if closely inspected, no odor, the bag looks $75% new. All in all, it looks like a well-cared for bag and/or not carried as much by previous owner.

Would be new for me. I don't do preloved because for one I can never be 100% sure it's authentic regardless of what the seller told me and also because the price isn't enough of a discount. I know a lot of used designed can be up around retail but for me used should be of substantial discount closer to 50% or more to consider but I do have a thing about used items.

I'd be getting a replacement new one.
