Hi guys, I have recently made the decision to purchase my first Cartier bracelet. Currently I have 2 options:

1. Purchase a brand new Love (regular size) without diamonds from the store
2. Purchase a pre-owned Love (regular size) with 4 diamonds and save about 31% off retail price. The condition is very good, it comes with full set except receipt and the seller (a reseller, not previous owner) said can do any form of 3rd party authentication as well

I kinda want to purchase it brand new for sentimental reasons. I plan to wear it 24/7 and don’t think of resell it later. I’m also scared what if it’s listed for resell because something happened to previous owner (like they’re no longer living, I know it sounds stupid but I really consider it because I’ll be wearing the bracelet all the time ). But tbh it’s a very good deal, I don’t want to miss it either.
If you’re in my situation, which option would you choose?
Thank you

Only you can know if fresh-from-store is meaningful to you. It's not, for me: I don't care about the retail experience and I'm not spooked by pre-owned bad vibes. But, the fact that you are concerned about the backstory sounds to me like you might not enjoy the pre-loved bracelet. I am sure there are plenty of Loves at resale that just didn't work for their owners (I sold mine as I cannot wear anything 24/7), but certainly there are also Loves for sale as a result of breakups and from estates.

From your post, I feel you should be in a better place getting the Cartier as the first owner.

I think get the new Love from the store as this is your 1st Cartier piece, it'll be a memorable experience and will be sentimental because you are the 1st owner and the excitement n joys of purchasing it for the 1st time. This is your investment piece, you need that peace of mind and be able to look at your Love bracelet and it makes you smile.

I've had both pre-owned and brand new. We purchased my pre-owned Love from eBay in 2008 (came with CoA and everything), and I wore it for 7 years before I sold it because it broke (long story). Then in 2021, I purchased a brand new Love from Cartier's website and then last year I got the small Love from their website again. Since I've had both, I will tell you that neither pre-owned or brand new affected me either way. I didn't care, as long as it was on my wrist and I admired it everyday. Even though I technically didn't get the in-store experience (we don't have a Cartier boutique in my state), it didn't bother me one bit. I still admire my Loves now and don't care that they were brand new. As long as I had my Love(s), I was happy.

Buy brand new from the Cartier boutique and get the full Cartier experience. I know places say they have authenticated them, and you can bring it anywhere and authenticate it...but when you buy brand new you have absolutely no doubts. It's yours from the start so it's like it was made for you as it didn't spend its first few years being worn by someone else. Once it's on your wrist you won't be thinking about saving a few dollars...as Henry Royce of Rolls Royce once said, "Quality will remain long after the price is forgotten!"

If there was no price difference between the plain and diamond bought new which would you choose? If you buy a new plain one would you regret not getting the diamonds?

I think it always feels a bit more special to buy new from the store if you can. That being said I bought my bracelet preloved but that’s because I desperately wanted the older 6 diamond version. I agonised between buying a brand new 4 diamond or a preloved 6. Ultimately the 6 diamonds meant more to me than the buying new so for that reason I’ve never once regretted my decision. But if Cartier had still sold the 6 diamond version I would have bought new.

Not sure if that’s very helpful but I wonder if your decision is more based around the diamonds than new or used.

Well, I was rollerblading and I fell directly on the pavement, and since you instinctively put your wrist out when you go to fall, I fell directly on my Love. It was horrifying and sad. It literally broke in half and I never did call Cartier to inquire about the repair because I was still able to sell it for $3500, even though it was broken in half. The buyer accepted that it was broken and still purchased it from me. Never heard back from him once I shipped it, so I assume he got it fixed. Sad story, I know. Now if I ever go rollerblading again, I will wear wrist guards and/or sweatbands to cover my Loves.
