Does anyone have a Coach Swagger 27 w/ pebble leather? I haven't purchased a Coach bag in several months. i'm not sure how these bags look when new, maybe if they have a little "worn" look to them but after I opened the dust bag I felt I got a returned bag. I went back to the sales associate and she assured me its a new bag sent from Coach but I said, it could still be a returned bag? I showed her the scratches and asked if I could get another "new" one. I wasn't hostile at all. I casually said I didn't want to be picky. I have kids so I'm sure my bag will get scuffed up and also I got a percentage off because they were having a donation event. So I donated $20 and got 25% off. So I really didn't want to bother but I was waiting for an order before leaving the mall so I went to her since the store was empty and she was really nice.

She tried to give me a bag from one of the bottom drawers which then I showed her the pocket was ripped and she made a comment that a customer must have not been truthful and broken it. I thought that was poor taste to assume it was a customer. I hope they weren't trying to sell that to someone as she tried to give it to me. Anyway she cleaned off the bag with their coach cleaner and showed me the scratches were gone. At this point my daughter was ready to get out the store so I told her thank you and left. Last night I noticed the spots reappeared. She did tell me I could return or exchange it but I could tell she just wanted to use the cleaner. I thought it would be a simple bring out a new bag instead of having to do the whole exchange process.

Usually when I buy new bags, they just look and smell new. With wrappings sometimes in there and they are kind of rigid and the leather is not creased until you use it. Pockets are tight, etc. idk if that make sense. The dust bag didn't look new. so I'm assuming it wasn't in a box. Idk if I'm just overthinking it. I feel like if it wasn't a return, it was display. I'm just kind of annoyed I paid close to $400 for a bag that already has scratches. I probably won't return to Coach for awhile. The associate was sweet but kept trying to get me to buy other things.

Am I over thinking this? haha Do you think they just retagged a returned bag or display bag? I never had this issue before!

I don't think that you are overthinking this. You need to trust your gut. A new bag should look and feel like a new bag, minus any flaws! A new bag should not have to be "cleaned" to remove scratches. If I were you I would return this bag ASAP, and either get a brand new bag in its place, or your money back. Otherwise, you will always wonder if your bag was really new or a return with issues.

When I get a new bag, I expect it to be perfect. I would return and ask for a replacement. However, the bag has been out long enough that it is likely they don't have much stock left other than returns.

Thanks so much for the replies.

"Whateve:" that's what I was thinking. I haven't kept up with Coach for awhile so I was wondering if they even sold it anymore seeing how she pulled it out the drawer for me to look at when I first walked in cause I mentioned I wanted the matte black with black hardware. So there wasn't any on display. But it's on the Coach website listed as $475.
I got $100 off. I'll give it another day and ask my husband what he thinks. I really love the bag cause of the matte black everything besides the little scratches.

Bags are NOT put in drawers on the floor to 'hide' a flaw or a used returned bag. The drawers are simply for bags that aren't being displayed on shelves. It's not an indicator of something wrong. They don't sell used bags. But bags that are returned, yes, they can sold IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN USED.

I'm sure they will give you one that is 'from the back' if you would feel better. Just ask. Using leather conditioner is good for the leather, though! Don't think they are trying to pull one over on you.

Sales associates are always going to continue the conversation to interest customers in more than one items. That's just selling 101.

Oh, and p.s. The matte black hardware IS prone to scratching. If that is going to bother you, then don't get matte black hardware.

I see what you see... I think you have to do what you're comfortable with. If you know that you're going to scratch it up in a month anyways, then to keep your discount / bag (if they really don't have any stock) I'd see if I could accept that and keep it.
If you baby your bags and they stay pristine for a long time, then return it. I see hardware scratch on the inner button, glue/scratch on the inner pull zipper, some abrasions on the feet.
The scratch on the leather handle isn't a big deal. I'd be more concerned about the mark on the back. That said, leather is NOT perfect (in general) so that could just be natural variation.

But I know what you mean. When I bought my swagger (black pebble leather, ombre rivets in gunmetal hardware), I chose between three in store (all still had plastic on the hardware and everything) and even the best one that I chose had some defects. (Crease in the side fold beside the panel that has the buckle attachment for the strap).

if you're not happy with it, then you need to let the associate know, and possibly they could order you one if they don't have it in stock.

on a side note, i cannot stand when people complain that a sales associate tried to sell them more things.... its their job, its their living, if you're not interested in buying more than simply and politely say no and if thats too hard for you then stick to online shopping.
