Does anyone have this or seen it irl? Any intel to share? I’ve seen it on a few preloved sites and it’s just listed as a “seau bucket” or “boucle bucket” so no idea what year it’s from.

I like the look of it but dealing with the straps to open & close looks like a nightmare…wondering if it can be used with the straps open?

It’s a cool looking bag!! I wish I could help with this one but I’ve never seen one in person. I can say that I have a Hermes Marwari and it has very similar strap design. I actually leave it unbuckled so I can access the interior. It doesn’t bother me much and if I’m wearing it somewhere I worry, I just buckle it up 😊

Does anyone have a Saint Laurent bag made with the vintage smooth calfskin or have any information about this leather? I've seen it on preloved sites also noted as natural calfskin or vegetable-tanned. It looks kinda like Vuitton vachetta but a little bit darker like it's started to patina a bit or has some minimal treatment. I'm curious if it will darken further to look and behave like Celine's natural calfskin or Hermes barenia?

On YSL's current website there is only a Sac de Jour that is listed as "supple" leather that looks similar, but again the website doesn't provide any information on care of this leather any differently than any of its other leathers, yet clearly if it's an untreated natural leather it's going to behave much differently! Obviously it shows scratches and potential stains but I'm kinda hoping it would be like barenia and develop a nice patina over time.

Would love to hear of anyone's experience or anything about this leather!

NEW CONTENT:

I had previously created two threads asking about vintage natural leather and about the boucle bucket bag, and now that I have this bag I’ve asked the mods to collapse them into this reveal!

I’ll post a more detailed review and everything I could find out about the style and this leather in separate posts below. But those of you who just want to see the goods can get right to it! Presenting my new-to-me YSL bucket bag in natural calfskin (for reference I'm 5'6"):

The leather is SO GORGEOUS! I’m guessing it’s like a cross between LV vachetta and Hermes vache natural…it is not totally stiff like vachetta but was more pinky-toned just like brand-new LV. It’s quite thick and vegetable tanned, and SO SOFT to the touch. The suede interior is luxurious, and all the stitching and edge coating is perfection.

I can tell by looking at interior patches it has patina-ed some already and will darken more, which is totally what I’m going for. Assuming the previous owner was perhaps a bit intimidated by the natural leather but I’m totally embracing it! It had some scratches and almost a waxy build-up, but cleaned up to perfection with a bit of Leather CPR.

From what I can glean, it’s from the 2023 collection…maybe when YSL was experimenting with making some more under-the-radar styles without the logo? Not sure of the exact name - it’s labelled as “boucle” (buckle) or “seau” (bucket) - and came in either this natural leather or grained leather in black.

The style is very simple and minimal. The problem with most bucket bag designs are when 1) they make it too smooshy and without any structure so everything just pools in a heap at the bottom, or 2) they make the base circular or square so that when you carry it crossbody or under the arm, it sticks out uncomfortably far from the body. This bag is the Goldilocks - with a rounded rectangular base that sits so nicely against the body, with enough structure so items are easy to find, tall enough for security, and yet not so rigid that it looks like a box.

This bag completes my HG "two-bag collection". For about a decade, I've been dreaming of two bags that were timeless, classic, go-anywhere/do-anything styles - one slightly dressier black one that could still look good with casual outfits, and a neutral simple everyday bag in natural leather. I got my black Chanel reissue camera bag last year, and now this beautiful YSL. Will this be purse peace?

Just wanted to follow up...I've been using the bag for several weeks now and absolutely love it! Very easy-to-use (with mods explained below), the leather is so rich and soft, very UTR and classic. Highly recommend this YSL style if you can find one!

Though this may seem like sacrilege to some, I did some mods to made it more personal and user-friendly. As suspected, putting the top strap in/out of the buckle all the time was getting a bit fiddly, so I made a DIY bag charm to hold the sangles in place. And punched an extra hole in the strap so I can shorten it to shoulder-carry length.

That was smart and looks nice. I have the same issue going in and out of my LouLou shopper.

Another update...been thinking about this for a while and took the plunge today...some of you (most? all? 😬) are gonna think I'm nuts...I darkened my bucket with mink oil!

I tested on a the smallest portion of strap first and when I saw how dark it went I freaked out a little (bottom pic), but then in 30 minutes it mellowed out. Just was VERY careful to apply as evenly as I could and wipe up any excess right away. I understand mink oil is very controversial with leather crafters but I already had some on hand and had read it works better to darken than coconut or olive oils.

SO happy with how it turned out! It made it more brownish and less yellow, more camel color like a baseball glove or like Hermes barenia which I LOVE!
