They are both great quality manufacturers but you'd be better off comparing the Ricky to a specific BV than against the entire brand. The Ricky is also a lot more structured than most BVs so you might want to take that into account.

Both are awesome in terms of quality, but they are very different in terms of style. Do you like structured with hardware, or slouchy with no hardware? I love my small pewter Ricky chain id bag -- http://www.polyvore.com/ralph_lauren_metallic_ricky_id/thing?id=114705533, but I think the large Ricky bags are too much. On the other hand, every BV bag I've seen has fallen flat for me.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either bag. It just comes down to which style you prefer.

I definitely went for Ralph Lauren after I checked them out in person I have the large bedford bag so I think a ricky would be a nice addition to the collection at one point :)
