I know we're among handbag collectors here, but I happen to have a collection of fashion books. I'm trying to build up a collection that's not just pretty but also informative. At the moment, I have very little books on handbags, the only one's I can think of right now are the two about Delvaux and Bottega Veneta! I love that last one because it focuses on craftsmanship. Are there any must-have books I need to add to my collection? It can be anything, about a particular designer, it can be historical, it can be about handbag care and maintenance or on how to spot fakes... I'm open to all suggestions :)

I have a very old Kate Spade book called Contents which literally shows the contents of women's handbags. When I say old, I mean the cell phones have antennae. It's a fun book that I love to look at ever so often. The only other book I have is called Bags A Lexicon of Style from 1999. To be honest, as much as I spend on handbags, I own mostly fashion books.

Where did you buy it from, Vink?
It sounds hilarious ![emoji3]

I got it from my local book store long time ago. Amazon has it though. The writer was a Birkin-reseller and he wrote about his life as one and his tricks on how to get a Birkin. It's quite a story. Very entertaining. I think Hermes claimed somewhere that his story was at fault. Well, but some ladies from the sub forum said it was true. ;)

I love books about bags and fashion.

Vintage Handbags is my favorite, but it's sadly just gone out of print. I also have Louis Vuitton's City Bags, which is great if you love LV, tons of pictures. There are tons of books about Chanel, but the bags take a backseat to pictures of the clothing and jewelry.

I've read Bringing Home the Birkin, and I couldn't finish it because the second half seemed to be mostly about his love life.

LV books are nice if you're interested in this brand, they can be bought online at lower price than in the LV store.

I also have the misc pocketbook on bags below :amuse:

Historical.

Thank you! Seems hard to get but I looked it up and the cover seems strangely familiar! I think I might have that book, at my parent's house. I've been slowly buying and collecting books since my teens (I'm 24 now) and I haven't got my collection in one place yet.

A new book came out recently, I saw it briefly in store and can't decide if it's a good one. Seemed to be mainly pictures and not a lot of info which makes it kind of expensive. It's a nice one to look at and flip through though.

Also debating to get this book, it contains close-up pictures of details on handbags. It's from 2007 though and I don't know which designs are included so I don't know how relevant it is to me personally, wish I could see the book in person before ordering. http://www.bookdepository.com/High-Fashion-Handbags/9780764325083

Oh thank you. Vintage Handbags is written about Marnie Fogg, I love her. She recently published "The Dress", another book that I'm planning to add to my collection. I quickly ordered Vintage Handbags since you told me it's gone out of print, so better get it while I still can. I also have another fun book from her, called "Why you CAN go out dressed like that". It explains why certain fashion designs are relevant. There is another book in the same series that explains modern art, "Why your five year old could not have done that"
