I was browsing around on Blue Nile last night and I came across this cushion cut purple amethyst pendant with earrings. Here's a link to the pendant....

I've been eyeing the Tiffany sparklers for a while, in fact I bought the praseolite earrings and pendant over the summer but ended up returning the set. I thought they were beautiful but I think I had some buyer's remorse. The Tiffany set was over $900 with tax and even though the earrings and pendant were beautiful and sparkly I just didn't feel like I got my money's worth. I remember thinking that I'd love this set if it cost about $4-500 less! I wonder if the Blue Nile earrings and pendant might be a nice option for a small fraction of the cost of Tiffany. What do you think?? For reference, here's the Tiffany pendant. How do you think they'll compare??

I love the Tiffany one and can't justify the cost either. Thanks for this awesome alternative!!

I have the Blue Nile Set (earrings and necklace) and bought it as a clear alternative to the Tiffanys sparklers.

My good friend has the Tiffanys set so I've been able to see both side by side and without a scrutinizing SA eye over my shoulder.

The bottom line is that it serves the same purpose - they're the same size, they're going to look the same (more or less). The Tiffany setting is clearly better, stronger, uses more metal, shapely and the stones are much richer and more beautiful in color.

I've had issues with the silver they used (I have a nickel allergy) in my necklace. I didn't return it (too late) but my chest breaks out after I wear this one necklace in particular. I have a lot of sterling silver necklaces from Tiffanys and this has never happened before. I'd say overall I regret going with BN over Tiffanys but never wanted to pay the Tiffanys $ and especially with the price increases now, that's more the of the case. I've seen beautiful alternatives at Costco using 18k white gold settings for $150-200. You may want to keep looking before you decide.

I have the Blue Nile amethyst necklace and would classify it as so-so. I like the style but the stone isn't cut as well as Tiffany's (obviously). I don't think it sparkles that much when it's on the neck. And if the whole point of a "sparklers necklace" is to sparkle then...eh. I didn't hate it enough to return it but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

it already begins with the chain - the Tiffany chain is very delicate but yet strong. They design it as fine as they can go and it totally pays off.

btw, 900 for earrings plus necklace does not shock me. Taken in account the cost per wear over time and the compliments you are going to receive ... :smile1:

If I may, I will also comment on the silver BN uses. My husband picked up a necklace for me that was Tiffany inspired and listed as sterling silver 925. It is also marked as such. 8 mo later it was tarnished and marked beyond polishing. We photographed and sent photos and was told by BN we sould have to take it in to have it re-plated with rhodium, because the rhodium had apparently worn off! No refund would be given.

Looking back at the listing, there was no mention of rhodium. Even if it was rhodium plated sterling silver, it should have still polished up with no issue. BN does make very nice jewelry, I would stay away from their silver.
