TPFers, what do you think of black hardware in general? Some people prefer the black hardware because you don't have to worry about matching jewelry with bag. I know that Coach 1941 line uses black hardware primarily, also some premier designers have certain designs with black hardware. I was looking for a black Chanel square reissue woc however the only one on their website is with black hardware. I plan to use the woc as an evening clutch as well, so I was wondering if black hardware is too trendy for those occasions.

The issue is manufacturers don’t opt for the slightly more expensive anodizing finish which is much more durable than standard plating over time. Anodized black titanium hardware would be an ideal solution for many handbags!

They can also colour base-metal in the making, it may not be jet black (like the colour of black-gold) Again, it's a more expensive option they don't bother with - not even Hermes.

The look is nice but any item I’ve bought with black toned hardware has chipped regardless of price point so I avoid it.
It’s also next to impossible to get repaired quickly. I purchased a YSL bag with black hardware. I called a number of third party repair shops and none carried the black hardware. And this was AFTER I called YSL and they told me it would be SIX MONTHS to get a replacement part in. Chanel may be a bit faster but, I don’t want any bag that is a headache to get fixed on the off chance it needs repair.

I love black hardware! I have two YSL pieces with black hardware and have never had an issue. But I’m not one to worry about any small chips even if it happens. Just love the look of it!

I like black hardware, but not matte. I feel like the bag is missing something, so what Hermès did with their So Black collection is the happy medium for me. Yes, it’s more trendy than classic but I’d like to have one black on black bag for the edgy look.

Just wanted to come back in and comment. I still love the look of my YSL. Once I got it repaired (by Leather Surgeons), I’ve worn it quite a bit. Zero chipping.

I also recently received a Dior Ultra Black WOC which I loooooove. Multiple wears and, again, no chipping so far.

So, I have to say, I adore black hardware and think it is a classic look that will “age” well. My concern were solely with YSL customer service which still makes me avoid the brand despite me adoring many of the styles.

One way to work around matching jewelry and bag is to mix and match them in the first place. Most my bags are gold, I have pair of loafers that are silver, an Eileen belt that is Rose Gold and my jewelry are both ‘silver’ and gold (steel watch, Love gold bracelet, white gold studs, white gold JUC, rose gold pinky ring, etc). They all work together really well. I never buy pieces to match. I get them in the color they look their best or how they look combined with other pieces.
A great thing about this is that I have a lot of versatility and can combine my things in endless ways! I’m always discovering new ways to wear the things I already own and everytime I add something new, I’m adding a bunch of new combinations.
