Black Diamonds - questions !

I dont know much about these stones so Im hoping someone here might !

Are they naturally black, real diamonds ? Do they sparkle like white diamonds ? Are they as valuable ?

Yes, no, not really. VERY few high quality totally natural ones are going to be on the same cost/value scale as a white diamond. With marketing being what it is, that is driving up the price at retail, but it's kind of artificial.

I believe most are not naturally black, but have been irradiated to become black. JTV has a bunch of them for sale.

If it's just the look you want, consider black spinel (JTV also has a lot). It's not treated, and even shinier than the black diamonds.

If they're larger than like...melee...theyre really more of a polycrystalline structure (a bunch of little ones). But most of what is on the market IS treated.

most black diamonds are treated. natural ones are more of a dark brown and slightly translucent

Truly black ones are really not technically diamonds in the truest sense, they're carbonite really.
