Hello,
I bought the birkin about a year ago, but I realized that I only used handful of the time when I am not with my 3 year old son.
I just think the hand carry is not practical with little boy. Also, I would need my hands free when I am shopping. Do any of the mommies out there use their birkins with the young children. I ended using my LV totally all the time. what a shame. Do you think Birkin is just not a practical bag?
PLease share your thoughts.
Thank you.

Well I am not a mother but I use my Lindy, Bolide, Kelly, Trim, PB, Marwari, etc...more than my birkins. I like having a shoulder strap if needed and you don't get that option with a birkin.:flowers:

I´m planning to get my second birkin, and i´m going to have my first baby in about 3 weeks.
i guess i´m not going to carry birkin when i go out with my future baby.Just can´t imagine how.A tote is more practical, that is for sure. But can´t resist to own more birkins!!!
and btw i love your display foto.i´m considering to purchase an orange birkin or a pink one.

Hi - I have a 7 month old and it's true that when I'm going to be carrying him loads I tend to reach for other bags (the Lindy and Evelyne are great for that) but if I'm taking him for a walk and he is going to stay in his bugaboo then I definitelyu take a birkin along, clipped with my two safety hooks. I also sometimes use it as a nappy bag :p!

I agree with you. although im not a mom but i know what you mean..
Moreover, a birkin is a hg and who can bear to have it dirtied while out with the kids?
If it were me, i would be carry a picotin, evelyne or lindy.

I fully agreed, sometimes I would thought of letting my B go in exchange for entry level bags which are more practical in my daily life even though I am not yet a mom. That needs serious consideration..

For all the new moms and future moms, children grow up and life evolves. What you don't use presently, you will in the years after the infant/toddler stage is behind you.

I am a mom and does find using the birkin rather unpractical. However i love the bag and always been able to find ways to use them, whenever kids go to school or when with my DH. He will automatically hold the kids hand.

I did however only start buying hand held bag after my toddlers are 3 yrs old. so you will have plenty of time to use your birkin very very soon.

I love my Birkins, but I truly think it would be perfect with a detachable shoulder strap.... or the larger handles so it can easily go over the shoulder, but usually two handles are not successful as a shoulder bag.

A signal has come to you to get a new bag from Hermes.:smile1:

I echo and agree with Jmen. Maybe only for now, it's not practical. Meantime, there's the other options from Hermes which you might want to venture, try out and continue using even when your child grow up.

As a mother of 4 aged 4 to 14, I only carry shoulder or messenger style bag when I go out with them without my helper or DH.

Recently I traveled with DH with our 4 yr old overseas, with stroller. Most of the time I was alone with my child and I felt Evelyn didn't meet my needs bcos I need to carry a water bottle, some maps, and keep my daughter's jacket when she complained it was warm ( I layered her clothes because it was winter).

I feel a birkin, being a hand held bag, may not be practical at this stage of your life. However, once your boy is a little older, you will get to enjoy it much much more.

Meanwhile, you can consider some of H's messenger and shoulder bag to tie you through when you go out with your son. It won't be long before he grows up.

Now that I am finally at the stage where I don't have small children, there are other instances that come up with a purely hand held bag. Just the other day I went to the ladies room, went to wash my hands, and there was no counter, just sinks and everything was wet. I actually thought to myself how do you wash your hands in a public restroom with a birkin? Obviously setting it down on the floor was not an option. Thankfully, I carry a larger Kelly and I threw it over my shoulder and went on my way. But what do you do about that ladies?

Hold it between your knees :p
