I posted an ebay-related question, in the ebay forum, too, but thought you might have some additional input in this sub-forum.

I wanted to trade in my current watch for the larger model, because after my baby, I have not lost all the weight, LOL. However, my model got discontinued this year, but the larger one did not, and it went through 2 price increases since. The watch store wants to give me a very low price for the trade, and I know I could sell it myself for about $2500.00 more.

The only place I can think of is ebay, but I am so scared since there are so many scammers on there.

(1) Does anyone have any suggestions on how to protect myself on there from scammers? ie- escrow companies, also is it possible to only take other forms of payment other than paypal? I want to know that the once the buyer has had the opportunity to make sure the watch is authentic and mine (I will post the receipt from the authorized dealer I bought it from, and email my mine, so s/he can verify from the manufacturer that I am the owner of the watch), then my payment is given to me, as opposed to some scammer filing a claim with ebay/paypal after they have my watch in their hands?

(2) Are there any companies you know of that do good values on trades or buying watches? I know Tourneau used to be great, but they just changed their policy a few months ago, and are horrible with their trade values now.

(3) How I can find a local buyer, so s/he can go to the authorized dealer where I bought it, get the watch checked out, and just deal with a person-to-person deal?

Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for any insight, thoughts, input.

Local consignment would be easiest if you can find a price you like. If not, and you're going through eBay but aren't a high-volume eBay seller and this would be a big deal with a high sale price then yes, I would suggest using an escrow. Escrow.com is the only eBay-approved company.
