Hello all :) Im looking to buy a large or medium selma i haven't quite decided and as i live in australia its turning out to be a little difficult BUT i am going to the states in mid august to early september and probably back again in december :) When is the best time to buy a bag? Does the price differ store to store or where would you recommend i go look?

You could always check out the online sites for the different stores that sell MK bags. Depending on where in the US you will be going, will determine what stores are in that area.

There's a Deals thread here in this forum too, that you could read through to get an idea of what stores to check out.

A bag that first comes out can take 3-4 months to go on sale. Sometimes more. Then stores will offer various discounts such as Friends and Family sales or coupons with limited exclusions. Even better when the bag you want is on sale and a coupon can be used. For example each year Belk (a store in the southeast) has a Charity Day sale. it usually happens in May and Nov. But at the same time they also send out a limited exclusions coupon for 20% off. A Sales Assoc told me you can use the 20% off coupon in addition to the charity day sale of 20 or 25% off and it is the only time of year you can "stack" discounts. So if your bag is on sale during the event you will get it for a song applying the sales price + the discounts and if not you are still getting a great price. I just bought a Luggage Colored studded Jet Set tote a couple of weeks ago during the last event (20% off +25%)

mid august to early september you could for sure get a good deal on a Selma. Are you going to an MK store or a department store like Macys or Belk? I actually got several of my Selma's when they were half off at the MK store. end of summer sales will be starting around that time and here in the states we have a holiday just about every month and Macys has a sale for every holiday and they always have one days sales, HOWEVER MK may not always be included in those sales but most times you are able to get 25% off on items,maybe not a Selma because of the price point but I have no doubt that when you come you will be able to score one at a good price

I will be in san francisco im pretty sure there is a MK store, hopefully I'll be there just in time for the sales! Is the outlet worth scouting for them?

In my experience with the outlets you can find really good deals, everytime I go to the one close to me they are always having 50% off or 40% off. But keep in mind the outlet doesn't sell MMK items that are out of season, they sell MMK items that are exclusive to the outlet or an authorized seller. so you may see a Hamilton there but it will have a cheaper quality to it and may not come in the quality leathers that you would get at the boutique

I just purchased the Audrey in Palm green and the Selma jeweled..really cute at the MK outlet. They told me that sometimes they do get MMK boutique purses. I actually got really good deals they were 50%off both. They both have a dust bag and the circled MK logo inside. Really good deals, sometimes..

I just bought the palm green Cynthia discounted at 62% off at the outlet. You are correct. Sometimes they do get the boutique items and when they do, they are heavily discounted. It's not often, but it does happen. They also had a few Selmas as well at 50% off.

i dont quite understand, are you saying that say if i see a selma at an outlet it will be one that is subpar? is it worth buying it there then or would i be better off buying it somewhere else such as nordstrom or the store itself

I don't even think Selma's are sold at the outlet. Most time the outlets have bags that are exclusive to the outlet. You won't find the same bags in the stores there. Nordstrom would have a selection closer to what they sell in the MK store and sometimes they will have colors exclusive to them but you will for sure find a Selma at Nordstrom Macy's etc

She is saying that sometimes the outlet sells a version of a popular boutique/retail MK handbag but with less features, i.e., it doesn't have feet or it is made of a pebbled leather in lieu of saffiano, etc.

The outlets sell their own version of the domed jet set zip top satchel and the Hamilton that I've seen. I've never seen a different outlet version of the Selma though.

Rarely, they will get a very small quantity of retail bags such as the Selma and they are in the back of the store and heavily discounted. The SA will tell you if it's a boutique/retail bag. If you see one, know that it probably won't last more than a day or two, since its such a good deal.

I've been to my MK outlet many times and only once have I seen retail bags (including the Selma) for sale.

You are correct AuntJulie..That is exactly right...I walked in and the Selma Jeweled was there in the back of the store, blue snake skin, only one....heavily marked down to 209. from 498. The woman working there said either you take it now or it won't be there in another hour...I bought it right up. Yes everything on it is exactly as they sell in the boutique. I checked as we have a boutique MK store not far from my house. Feet have MK, all the hardware and strap, but at a much better price.I really like it...Good Luck...

I went to an outlet mall in Syracuse New York or near Syracuse New York a few weeks ago. The outlet mall was attached to the main mall and it was huge. That MK outlet had about 8 shelves full of bags from the retail stores (including Selma's). They were all marked 30% off. I did not buy anything because I had just purchased my Sutton. So it really depends on which outlet you visit and when..... :)

Lucky you! I would stalk that store! I got lucky last week getting that palm green Cynthia. They also had some cute Saffiano outlet handbags as well.
