Hello,

I was wondering what's the best place is to sell some of my Van Cleef pieces?

I really do not want to consign the pieces on RealReal, eBay or similar sites as I do not want to leave pieces with someone and not get paid (potentially wait up to 30+ days to get paid).

I also do not like the fact that most sites like RealReal accept returns and I am concerned my pieces could get damaged if a customer returns the item.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi everyone. I have a couple of VCA Sweet bracelets which I bought preloved a few years back. I don't wear them as they are a bit delicate for someone my age and I’d really like to sell them. Various people have put me off eBay, which is a shame as I’ve sold some (admittedly much less expensive) pieces there before and never had any bother. Can anyone recommend a good way, in the U.K., to sell such things? I’m not hoping for a huge profit but I’d like to recoup the money I spent if possible.

VCA is still quite popular.
Are there are resellers that you would have the confidence to see what the offering might be?
Whether it would be consignment or a direct buy out?
Any jewelers that could be interested in VCA..
The auctions houses would likely have an interest (Christies , Sotheby's, etc but you might want a
reserve & other costs might be applicable but at least you would not be so put off, JMO)
Perhaps @papertiger could chime in with a thought or two..

Thanks @Love Of My Life for tagging me.

I don't know what age you are, but if you feel too young to wear them, perhaps think before you sell. I sold some amazing antique natural pearl drop earrings more than a decade ago because I was basically scared of them. Of course now I'd love to have such a pair but could never afford them in the current market. Would you feel you'd want the same pieces in 10 years, multiply their RRP + 12% per annum and see what that figure is. That's probably the minimum you'd have to pay.

If you do decide to sell, def. don't go through flee-bay. I'm sure you'll recoup most of the money if you bought them a few years ago. Send pics to reputable auction House like Christie's or Bonham's etc. Any sale Sept-March is good for signed, fine jewellery, especially before Christmas when dealers are looking for pre-christmas stock. Ask whichever auction house to break down all expenses and agree to an estimate before signing the contract. Think of the estimate (-10%) as a possible outcome - expenses as the minimum figure. If it's not acceptable, don't part with them.
