Will be doing a trip to London and Berlin (funny combination, I know but why not?) and was just wondering what the shopping experience is like in both cities? From what I gather here on the forum, London seems like a mixed bag with Harrods and Selfridges getting top marks. Berlin seems to have its fair share of fans...Anyone with any SA to recommend? I would be very grateful.

And the million dollar question - what is the inventory like? The bad news is that I will be going after Christmas, so will stocks be low? I am looking for a birkin and an evelyne... (I gather a birkin find in London is like a needle in a haystack)

Thanks for the help/tip/advice in advance! :smile1:

Hello, bagfreak48.

I have never seen Birkin on the shelf in London, although I have seen a fair amount of Evelyne. (I am sure there are quite a few Birkins in the back room for VVIP and good customers, though)

But someone I know was lucky enough to snap up a Birkin in ostrich at Harrods. Someone who special ordered it declined it in front of her so she just bought it there and then. But you have to be incredibly lucky to have an opportunity like that, I think.

Also I don't quite know if Michael Tonelo's tactics work in London... Does anyone know???

It will be a big sale season in London just after Christmas (normally starting from 26th December), so Selfridges and Harrods will be incredibly busy although Hermes doesn't participate in the sale.

I am sorry I can't recommend any SAs for you as I am still looking for a good one for myself, too!! (I was told that there is a very nice SA at Harrods, though. Look up my thread if you are interested.;) )

Hope you find something you like. Please let us know how you get on. :smile1:

Bagfreak48: I've never been to London but have visited both Berlin stores several times. I had an iffy experience at the Hermes in Stadtmitte - nonchalant SAs who didn't seem to be too interested in helping (I was there trying on boots). The SAs at Kurfürstendamm were nothing short of polite and very helpful (they also seemed to have a larger selection). Hope this helps!

I was in London last week. SAs were horrible with product knowledge as things sell itself quickly there. Yes, the department stores you get better service. I saw a kelly that was there for a day. Lots of victorias, some evelyn, massai, a few clutches but no kelly cuts/longue. 2 lindys at one store and none at the others. You may have to revisit the stores to check inventory. Lots of exotic wallets last week. Good luck!

There is a wonderful SA at Harrods in London who is from the United States. She has been with Hermes for years and transferred from the Washington DC store I believe. I haven't spoken to her in more than a year and her name escapes me. She was very helpful and if she didn't have what I was looking for she referred me to an SA in the DC store.

I agree with chicpurse with regards to the american lady at Harrods, she is really helpful and very friendly. I also don't know her name but she is an older lady and wears glasses on a chain if I remember correctly! I found the stock levels very low though. I wasnt looking at Birkins but they had only blue jean evelynes in the boutiques and non at all in Harrods. I was in London the end of October.
Good luck!
