Thought this was an interesting read... especially in contrast to Coach.
Both Lululemon and Coach have tried to take on "re-sellers" by banning them, but ended up offending loyal customers in the process. The big difference... Lululemon has apparently apologized to those they banned.

I'm wondering... do you think Coach will do the same?

(Please know that I don't want to re-open any wounds... just hoping that Coach's PR department will get a clue and figure out how to turn things around)

Thanks for posting. This is so interesting.

The difference seems to be that Lululemon actually had proof these people were reselling, even if it was one item. As far as we know, Coach has banned many people who don't resell, yet there are plenty of obvious large volume resellers who aren't being banned. Coach seems to think that they can analyze buying patterns to determine if someone is a reseller, instead of the more obvious approach of monitoring ebay listings.

This.
It's also apparent who the resellers are when you visit any given outlet. Not that coach will turn away their money, but it's still annoying.

Boy, you said it! It is so obvious when you see a tag team, usually two men, one with a clipboard of computer printouts going through the store and buying 3, 4, 5 or more of the same thing, usually MFF signature.

Then the young woman who wants to buy 5 wristlets for bridesmaids gifts gets the "you are limited lecture."

My SA told me that people have come into the full price store with computer printouts and purchased $10,000 worth of bags in one shot! They know they are going to be going overseas. Pretty flagrant but it didn't sound like they were doing anything about it.
She said this a year ago after I mentioned I had purchased a couple bags of the same style(Carrie) and hoped Coach wouldn't ban me LOL!
She did say that they caught someone in NH who was hiring college students to go into Coach stores and each make multiple purchases with PCE s. That way it would look less suspicious. They were also to resell overseas.
The Asian market has been very profitable for them and I'm sure they don't want anyone uncutting their sales.
Their methods need some reexamining IMHO. I have been directly impacted as I'm no longer receiving invitations to FOS. I rarely bought anything from FOS but I purchased multiple items in Sept(wristlets and key chains for my daughter and nieces), three wallets and a few bags for me.(4 Carries- I returned two for credit at FP) I was buying for Christmas and it just so happened that they deleted some styles I really liked. Oh, well.....

I know people like to buy Coach as gifts to take back home for friends and relatives, so Coach shouldn't assume that these large purchases are for re-sale.

I was at a Coach outlet once and overheard a conversation between a manager and a tourist who was getting pre-approval for a large purchase. He gave her a purchase limit that day for $20,000, and she could come back later that week and he would approve another $10,000. Obviously the manager didn't assume she was a reseller.

Also, it isn't against the law to buy and resell their products here in the US. There may be some problem with importing/reselling in other countries, but it's up to those countries to regulate it, not Coach.

Coach owes an apology to probably hundreds, or more, people who like to collect their bags/products and who have been banned.

Dear Coach,

Just so you know, I am very forgiving/susceptible to bribes. I will completely and utterly forgive you for one 50% off FP purchase coupon and unfettered access to FOS sales. I promise you won't regret it.

Love and kisses,
Jessica

That would just burn my butter! Shortly after I bought my first Coach bag, I purchased the same one- the Lindsey- in Metallic for a wedding gift for a niece. Now I'm glad I had it shipped directly to her so it's on record who got it. It does seem like such a shame that some loyal Coach customers are getting banned when Coach doesn't have any hard evidence that they're chronic resellers.....seems a bit like a witch hunt to me.....
