I have a few month-long vacations planned and I don't want to bring my "good" jewelry (i.e. e-ring, diamonds, Yurman, and Tiffany). I feel weird about leaving them in my tiny safe at home. Has anyone rented a safe deposit box? How much is it? TIA!

I rent a box in a bank, i leave there important documents, jewelry that i don't use often and when i travel i put all what i dont take there, we have a safe at home but i feel better to put the valuables in the bank when we are away so i would advise that you do the same, you will feel safer.

i keep my jewelry in the bank deposit vault. a few years ago my parents had a safe removed from their closet, the theives actually cut the studs out of the wall to remove it. it was hidden behind a closet organizer...but they found it.

My good jewelry is in a bank box as well. I'm not sure how much it costs as DH pays the bill but I know it's not much. You can get a discount on your insurance by keeping the jewels in a safe deposit box.

My grandmother's cocktail ring that I inherited as well as her solitaire are in my safe deposit box. Been there for years! I have a safe, but do not trust my very expensive jewelry in it....my luck the crooks would find a way to haul it out of my house.

We have one here in the US, and I believe my mom pays $40 for it. And then we have 3 in India (and my aunt has 4, and we sometimes share!), and we pay probably around the same for each one. The biggest one at my bank here in the US is $140 and its pretty much the same size as a small gym locker.

It's definetely worth it. Also, in our town the safe deposit boxes are VERYYY rare and hard to find...there are waiting lists a mile long. Same thing with India..thats we have so many! Becuase if we give them up we will never get them back, and they are VERY handy especially for things like going out town. I would definetely get one :) It's a good investment and it's really not that expensive.

I have two they cost me about 30 bucks a piece a year one holds film and negatives made from digital files that i don't want to lose. the other i put my camera stuff in when i am out of town. I i have stashed jewelry in there when out of town. It is totally worth it.

Our safe deposit box is about $60/year for a medium size. We also have a safe at home, placed in the foundation when it was poured so no thieves are going to get it without a jackhammer! I only put jewelry in the safe deposit box when we're going on a trip. If I kept it there on a regular basis I'd just get rid of that jewelry. I've known people who have bought expensive jewelry, had copies made with fake stones, then put the originals in a safe deposit box and wear the fakes. Huh? What's the point of owning the originals?

I have a med size safety deposit box at my bank...$60. per year. Also check with your insurance company, they may offer a special rate, on your jewelry riders. If it's something expensive that you don't wear daily, you can call the insurance company, tell them you are wearing the item, for how long, etc. It's a pain in the ass but it does save on insurance riders and it puts the safety deposit box to good use.
