I am a bit confused about baguettes. I am looking at a ring at my local jeweler and the baguettes look much darker to me than the photos I have seen posted here. They are very skinny tapered baguettes with a round center stone. So I asked my jeweler what the color and clarity is on the baguettes, and they told they are not graded. Is that true? Do skinny tapered baguettes reflect light differently? The jeweler also told me that he could change the baguettes if I am not happy with them. Is that easy to do? I do understand that baguettes don't sparkle as much as a brilliant cut, but the ones I am looking at don't appear to shine that much at all. I would appreciate any help!

Typically melee/pave sized diamond and diamonds under .25ct are not sent to an independent lab for grading. That said, a reputable jeweler should be able to provide an estimate of color and clarity (usually a range like G-H VS1-VS2), as will an appraiser.

ETA: Your eyes are the real judge here. If they don’t seem bright, white and sparkly it doesn’t matter what the jeweler or appraiser says.

So true! If what I’m seeing doesn’t look right then it isn’t! Thank you!!
