"Milan, 10 August 2023 – Maxi theft in the warehouse of the Hermès store in via Montenapoleone in Milan: disappear 4 bags – including one Birkin Himalayas – for a value of 90 thousand euros. No signs of forced entry were found on the doors. The bags were in areas accessible only to personnel and they were stolen and replaced with others, always Hermès, but of lower value. The discovery happened last August 7, when during a check it emerged that the precious bags were missing and the complaint was filed by those responsible at the police station in via Moscova who are now investigating.

The Birkin is a bag made by Hermès artisans. A Birkin is forever because it is ennobled over time and acquires more and more value with each passing day.

The Hermes maison says that “this object among the most desired of the last few decades” was born in the air during a Paris-London flight. On board, the recently deceased English actress Jane Birkin is seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas, president of Hermès (1978-2006). The two start chatting and the actress complains about not being able to find a bag that fits his needs. “A born creative gifted with an infallible intuition – says the maison – Dumas immediately designs a capacious bag with a rectangular shape, soft and spacious, with a smooth profile and saddle stitching”. Just as the Hermes Kelly bag was inspired by Grace Kellythe Birkin therefore takes its name from Jane who with Serge Gainsbourg was certainly one of the most famous and transgressive couples of the jet set of the sixties.

Sold for dizzying figures, to have the famous it-bag, it is said, it is not enough to have the disposable income, some models are sold for the price of an apartment, but it helps lots of patience. You have to wait: the long waiting list because sales are sipped. A marketing strategy that makes this object even more exclusive, and therefore precious."

I think what happened is also a drawback from their Marketing Strategy.
Again, they say 99% of the time "Sorry, we have nothing in stock" while stock are full. The robbery shows that stocks were full anyway ... This strategy leads to insane price on grey market that can make a lot of people too greedy and ready to shut their values off for the sake of money ...

this is just a perspective from a customer who is salty about not being able to buy bags
theives have a much simpler pespective: "there's something valuable in there so we're gonna take it"

Thanks but I got 5 QB + 4 Non quota in the course of 2 years.
I have nothing to be salty about

I truly love the brand and ofc bags but it doest not mean I agree with the Hermes QB allocation policy!

+ my point was : With their policy, grey market is so high that OFC it’s tempting for thieves or anybody that is ready to do bad things for money !

I mean, in the real world, outside Hermes bubble, where 99% of the population lives, people kills for way less money than that so the fact that an H employee, former employee etc. is able to turn his back to H to organize a robbery is nothing surprising or chocking to me !

It could be they robbed them on restock day. But either way 4 bags total in the room ….might as well be empty compared to the amount of people asking for them on the daily.

I wonder if they just robbed four and left others or there were only 4.

It wasn't a warehouse theft; it was from the shop's stockroom; it was four bags. Not comparable to the robbery in the actual warehouse outside Paris a few years back - that actually depleted stock for quite some while.
It is a fair bet that every store in a large city has more than four bags in the back at any given time every single day.
Not sure how it has anything at all to do with the marketing strategy except that the bags are desirable? :confused1:
