I'm going on holiday to Spain in about 2 weeks time, I really want to take my new tote with me as I can fit all my essentials in, plus I'm only taking a very small case as no hold luggage (only going for 5 days)

do you ladies think it's a good idea to take it's dust bag along? I thought if I have to put it in an overhead locker it might stop it getting marked or scratched, does anyone else do this?

thanks

These threads may help.
Personally, I don't take my designer bags on vacation. And know someone with a chanel jumbo, which received nasty hardware scratch in overhead compartment--through dustbag.
I believe a waterproofed dusty/cover would be great idea, given turbulence & tiny drink cups.
Safe travels.

I would definatelly take the dustbag with me...

I don't take my best bags on holiday. I find they get manhandled through security, thrown in the plastic trays etc. Also people pile things on top if they are in the overhead compartments on the plane. Too much of a worry. I think in and out of the dust bag would be a faff for you.

I tend to just put my bag under the seat in front, even my big LV totes, although I can't actually fit them in their dustbags when there's stuff in them so I'd have no choice but to not take a dustbag. I'd never put them in an overhead locker though!

I would be a bit cautious when it comes to customs though. I had one snotty lady practically rip open my neverfull and manhandle my mulberry purse while searching them, and I could only watch in horror!

If you are concerned with protecting it I wouldn't take it. The entire air travel experience is hard on everything. Depending where in Spain you are going, an open tote is an invite to pickpocket

thanks for all your info ladies, TBH I bought this bag to use as an every day shove it in bag, so I'm going to use it a lot. Therefore I can live with a bit of wear and tear, I want to use it and enjoy it

The idea is to use it in the airport and on the plane to I have a decent size bag to put all my odds and ends in, it's very deep and as I have no hold luggage I'm planning to share between this bag and a small cabin size suit case.

I won't be using it in the resort or on an evening as I have a small zipped bag for that. So basically my purse, travel documents, phone, kindle, hair brush, phone charger, hair dryer, make up bag, glasses, etc

I always take one of my favourite bags on a weekend break, definitely take take the dustbag.
I usually put it in it's dustbag under the seat and don't use the overhead locker. It does also depend on who you fly with, I once went with Easyjet, never again, they came round really stuffing everything in the overhead lockers.

I have just come back from two weeks holiday in Tenerife, 4 hour fight. I took 3 small bags in my hand luggage and carried my s/m Chanel flap at the airport and kept her in the dust bag on the flight. So 4 bags in total - Lily, 2 Chanel's and my WOC. It all went very smoothly

I just feel life's too short not to have a lovely bag with you when you go away. ;) I used the all and was really glad I had taken them.

I am off to Brazil in july and take my bays with me in the plane and might take my lilly or my effie..probably the effie..a bit scared with beach sand on my precious lilly

I usually use my well loved oak bays as carry on as I don't mind it being bashed around a bit. Keep it under the seat, and put my chanel 225 double flap inside in its dust bag and maybe another wee clutch or cross body.

I'd bring it, along with the dustbag and keep it under the seat ahead of you. I've done this and it works fine. I also use the dustbag to put in the bottom of the container that they run through the security machine so it doesn't have to touch the plastic lol. I've never had security search or manhandle any of my bags. They just go right through the xray machine and I pick them up myself after. I would avoid the overhead bins though. People just cram their stuff in and around and on top, with no care whatsoever.

Definitely a dust bag or canvas/nylon tote to put your precious bag in. I'm restless and paranoid as it is, so I always use anything and everything but my expensive bags for travel. If I had something pricey in the overhead compartment (which is where my bag mostly is since I prefer exit row seats because of my height) I could never relax, let alone sleep or concentrate on anything else.
