Does any one have any suggestions for a bag that would have a pocket or sleeve for a water bottle? I'd prefer an external pocket so i won't worry so much about spills. I need to carry a MacBook Air 13, binder and a water bottle and look somewhat appropriate for a middle school teacher, e.g., not a backpack, but a large purse, messenger bag or tote would be fine. Lightweight would be great, if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks SuziAck

Are you looking for something fancy or just practical? If you are looking for practical, just check out LeSportsac and look at what REI.com has.

Tokidoki for LeSportsac Buon Viaggio Tote would be perfect. But those are no longer made, and would only be an eBay option.

MZ Wallace Kate has two outside bottle pockets - it is described as a diaper bag but it is perfect for work or travel. Lightweight coated nylon. Very high quality. There is a thread on MZ Wallace bags you can search.

Suzi,

I have 3 Makowsky bags, all of which have outside pockets - and 2 of the bags will fit a tablet (I fit my Samsung in one of them on a recent trip). There's a large interior zip pocket in the middle of these two bags designed specifically for a tablet. One outside pocket held my cell phone, the other a water bottle. Note that it will hold a fairly small bottle, but one of my larger Makowsky's holds a larger bottle. They may not be high fashion bags, but the price is right, they're leather, and they are very utilitarian. My faux-croco leather bag matches my Longchamp roseau croco leather wallet very well! I would be hard pressed to find another bag to take to the airport. Looks good and you'd never know it held so darn much! Normally one of these bags will run $200-350 but I got mine at TJ Maxx (I'm not too embarrassed to be a bargain hunter) for around $125. You can't beat that for an attractive, solid leather bag.

There are some stylish diaper bags around...sounds bad but honest to God, it's true! Anywhere from adorable to utilitarian and unisex to chic (ok, sort of). These will carry water bottle upright & laptop. Lots of org pockets.

Thanks everybody. I have been looking at diaper bags. I can't bring myself to spend $400 on a nylon bag, so I ordered one from LL Bean in light green and will keep an eye on ebay for the perfect MZ Wallace or MBMJ.

More suggestions are always appreciated.

What about a purse/bag organizer that would enable you to store your bottle of water? I bought one from Divide and Conquer on Etsy and not only does it give shape to the bottom to keep it sturdy, it also helps for organizing my bag with all the extra pockets. She makes the organizers with an option to include a bottle holder for extra minimal charge.

Hello OP,

I found two cheapie options:

This bag is similar looking to a Marc by Marc Jacobs diaper bag but at half the price: http://www.6pm.com/timi-leslie-diaper-bags-marie-antoinette-ii-silver?zfcTest=mat%3A1

I have this Patagonia tote bag and really like that it can be stowed into its own pocket and that it can be a backpack if you wish: http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/lightweight-travel-tote-bag?p=48807-0-303
Patagonia also makes a messenger version that can be folded into its own pocket but dunno if a MacBook Air will fit comfortably along with a binder.

Hope of of these bags works if the LL Bean doesn't pan out for you.

Prada has a pretty one with a place on each side for a water bottle or bottle . I was thinking it might make a great baby bag ! It's a nice size not to big and an iPad would fit perfect .

I can't recommend a purse but I do use a water bottle by Miir. The lid screws securely and has double holes for your fingers. I have put this in my purse without incident for over a year. I always check the seal after every wash.

The bottle is double insulated but the lid is not. That is the only place that can catch condensation if you allow it to rest on it's side. if it's standing upwards this problem does not appear.

My lunch bag is the Ebags Crew Cooler II. It has two side pockets for water.

Good Luck!
