To all Cartier automatic watch owners (esp BB),
I own a Cartier BB (steel) automatic 42 mm and have noticed that it does not keep approximate time! It is on a watch winder all the time to keep the movement going. It's always 3 minutes ahead of time and I always have to reset the time, which I find irritating. Does anyone else notice that? Depending on the responses I get from here I will let it be or call the Boutique! Thanks for the feedback.

I had a similar problem - my BB was gaining more time than it should have (approximately 5 min/week when it should have been no more than 1 min/week). I took it to Cartier to be recalibrated and it's been perfect ever since. Definitely get yours checked out!

Recalibrated? Was that something they did in a day and for free? I would've expected them to respond with "that's the nature of automatic watches - it's the tradeoff for not having a quartz."

It was still under the 2 year warranty so it was free - I'm not sure how much it would cost if you were out of warranty. Turnaround time was about a week, but I took it straight to the Richemont service centre so it may take longer if you send it to the Cartier boutique.

Automatic watches are generally not as precise as quartz but there are standards that they should adhere to. What these standards should be is very hotly debated, but I found this article very useful and in line with the general consensus of +/- 10 secs per day maximum for non COSC watches http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/accuracy.shtml

Automatic watches keep bad time when put up against a quartz watch. 3 minutes per day is not unheard of, especially if the watch is a few years old. Even my COSC spec watches vary more than they should as time goes by.

I guess I should have serviced mine, it has always run 2-3 minutes fast (at least) ever since I bought it nearly 6 years ago.

oh well. doesn't really bother me as I'd probably set it fast on purpose otherwise.
