I have a dilemma---of course of the very best kind as it involves H shopping! I love my Evelyne PM and want to get a GM3 or possibly GM2 and I am just head over heels with the color PRUNE. I'm heading from the US to London next week and as it works out, to purchase my Evelyne over there would cost me 30% less--savings of roughly $900!! And while I plan to call every H shop the moment the plane lands:woohoo:hello i'm here!! whatchagot? I do not anticipate a pile of Prunes ready and waiting. I don't want to get swept up and buy a color I don't love but I'm wondering if I should get over my prune fascination and hope for another nice, darker neutral shade...because Hermes is never a "bargain" yet here's my chance. Help! What would you do? Keep saving and get a domestic prune, or purchase an English treat of a flavor I'm not sure of?

Sorry for the long post!

At $1.42/pound, is there anything else on your shopping list? While I would be spending like a fool with those exchange rates, if it's one substantial item you have your heart set on, I'd not settle. But if there are other (Hermès or other brand) items you've always wanted, now would be the time!

Have a great trip!

$1.42!! Man ,I need to buy some GBPs just to have them.

Okay, back to topic. If Prune is really the color you want, then Prune is the color you should get (domestic if need be or foreign born if you can). If you are anything like me, you will see something that really grabs your attention while on vacation but when you return to real life, it won't be all that and the $900 you save won't really be a savings after all because you will crave the Prune and still go out and buy her in the end.

Good luck!!

Oh Callmelulu--This is a hard one! As you know I am also on a hunt for an Evelyne in Prune. I know I would cave in and get any E or any H bag that I saw and liked at such a discounted price and then figure out a way to get my Prune too when I get back home. I will send you positive Prune E vibes in hopes that you get one! Best of luck!!!

Like the saying 'when in doubt, don't' .. Stick to what you love and what makes your heart sing (domestic or foreign-born) especially when it comes to H.. Just be sure to only purchase what you really want & love! However I'd also be open-minded to colors that would make me fall in love the second I look at it..

Wish you a great trip & hope you find your love! (Prune E )

Thank you all for your input and good wishes! You're all helping me stay focused--I really love the Prune and so I think I have to hold out for that, and try not to be tempted to buy something not on my "list" just because it's a great price! But boy will it be hard-I'll feel like the whole store is on sale just for me just this once and as much as I adore so many other H items I don't want to blow my Evelyne budget.

It is really hard restraining yourself when you are in the very fortunate situation of knowing how much something would be in the US and seeing it selling for far less in another country. I was in Paris in December when the exchange rate was ~$1.25/euro and I did buy more than I was planning to, though for me as a person who prefers H's household goods and men's ready-to-wear, it's much easier finding exactly what I want everywhere.

But if something catches your eye, do the math on the exchange rates and the VAT refund, and if you can easily afford it, really really consider it! I looking at the price disparities on all the h.com sites, I cannot imagine H won't have to adjust UK prices.

i actually have the same predicament as you Callmelulu.

I am set on a Raisin Evelyn and a Vert Olive Lindy. What will I do when both are not in stock? what will i do when I settled for another color then when I'm at the airport waiting for my flight, I browse the H store there and find the ones that i want?

then when i didn't buy it (when i won't settle for another color) i'll get home empty handed. then what? i will be thinking of the bag i didn't buy even if it's a second choice color because it'll definitely be cheaper in London.

dilema! dilema!

but i think i will be settling for a second color then who knows, it'll probably be better for me. I've had experiences like that when i settled for a second choice, then went back on another occasion then was so glad i went ahead with the second choice.

and if it's for you, it's for you. sometimes we don't get what we want but it turns out for the better.

good luck!

Go with Prune in mind, but be open to something else. If you see another color/style and fall in love, then buy it. It will always remind you of your trip.

so true--and i adore london, it would be great to always thing of that city when tooling around with my bag. i think i'm hoping there is either a color i truly love or only colors that completely won't work for me so i'll be able to walk away.

I had a royal nightmare trying to track down an Evelyne for littleblackbag, they are like hen's teeth right now in London. I hope you have some luck once you get here
