A good friend of mine has a pretty large engagement ring, 5 carats , and she's ALWAYS so worried about her diamond that she's thinking of getting an exact replica from Asha diamonds so that she can keep her real ring at home in a safe when she's travelling or out at a club, but still have an engagement ring and wedding band on. I think it would bother me to know that I wasn't wearing a real diamond, but I can also understand being worried about losing a diamond that size. My skinny little finger would droop if I had a ring on that big!! I actually put it on one day and it took up my entire knuckle... crazy! Anyway, have any of you ever seen or do you have an Asha diamond and do they look real or are they obviously fake? I told her I'd ask you all because if anyone would know, I'm sure it would be on here :D

not only would it bother me to not wear the real thing, but if you're going to keep it at home locked up, why have a 5 carat ring to begin with? when people do that, i just don't understand it. guess what? if her ring is insured, then she should wear it in pride and not fear. if it is not insured, my suggestion is run to the insurance agency and get it insured IMMEDIATELY! i can't imagine walking around with an uninsured 5 carat diamond ring on my finger, but that's me. :shrugs:

when i travel, i leave my e-ring at home and wear one of my eternity bands, so it's more simplified. sometimes when i'm working out or playing tennis, i'll just wear my plain gold band.

why doesn't your friend do the same thing? why go through the charade of getting a replica made just for the sake of always wearing it??? kwim?

sorry, i know i didn't really answer your question, but i honestly don't know anything about asha diamonds or the like. just wanted to put my 2¢ in.

I agree completely, and my engagement ring as it happens is also 5 carats. I spent the first 7 years of my marriage living in NYC. When and if you are in a situation where you don't feel comfortable wearing this type of ring, subsituting it with a fake doesn't necessarily meet the objective. Not to mention a fake that size may actually look silly.

If it's insured appropriately, then she should enjoy it. Otherwise, an alternative band makes the best sent if she's uncomfortable.

I undertand. There was a group of women here that where held at gun point for e-rings.
I turn my ring around a lot in large crowds, sporting events.
The celebrites purchase these types of rings. Why not?

I don't know what Asha is ?????

I can understand not wearing it sometimes, but I wear my ring everyday, no matter where I go.

I think I like the idea of a gold or diamond band to wear instead.

I understand not wanting to wear a large ering everywhere. IMO, it's not about the insurance, but rather the sentimental aspect of losing it. Of course it can be replaced, but it will never be the original.

With regards to Asha, if you do a search you will find a few threads on it.

I respect the idea of sentimentality however, to further my point, someone interested in robbing you is not going to take the time to ascertain whether the huge ring you have on is fake or not. So by virtue of wearing a large fake in a dicey situation, you really open up yourself to that kind of danger.

I have also been held up for jewlery/money, but at knife point. Also in NYC, but at the time, I was only wearing a gold band/good watch and pearls as I went to some questionable neighborhoods for work.

Celebrities have handlers and stylists and usually the people they travel with are deterrent enough.

She's mainly worried about losing the stone and not having it anymore for sentimental purposes. That's why I worried about losing my stone so eventhough it is insured, I had them put extra prongs on it to keep it secure.

I feel like a fake could look silly at that size also, but I'm definitely not a good judge of knowing whether a diamond is real or not. I can tell if it's a CZ and obviously gawdy and whatever, but other than that I have no idea. She had heard that Asha was a good brand for a replica, but hadn't seen any in person. I just wouldn't like wearing a fake. I don't wear fake or knock off anything, but that's just me. I honestly don't know why she got a ring that large in the first place. It's gorgeous, but a little too OTT for me and I LOVE big diamonds!!

omg!! are you serious? that is soo scary

I like to hang out Downtown ATL a differnet mix of people but you have to be careful, I had a neighbor that was followed home two weeks ago after Christmas shopping, she has a nice car and was wearing a mink coat??

The economy is bad and people are bad

Note: I loved Mrs. Johnson I had the opportunity to meet here a few times. Did you ever attend any of the fashion shows.

I have a friend that talked a guy ot of robbing her for her LV luggage:nuts:
She gave him $100 told him the luggage was fake.

That's great!! I was so young and terrified when it happened to me. I was also afraid I would say something sarcastic or snarky that would really **** them off. I bit my lip so hard to keep my mouth shut, that I bit right through it!

and i can totally see that, however, do you think the gunman will know if it's a fake diamond or a real one? he's still seeing this gigantic rock, nevertheless, so to me, it doesn't defeat the purpose other than you wouldn't lose your original ring, but if you had insurance, it wouldn't matter.
