Seeing so many on my commute go for ease and comfort, wheels or backpack, just made me bolt the other way.

I bought a statement polished briefcase to carry my new laptop and iPad. I carry a cross-body and handheld anyway so it's not a million miles out of my comfort zone anyway.

^ I see I'm not alone.

What about you?

For my work bag, I also have a briefcase, but one that can be transformed into a messenger bag or a backpack. This one:

Wow, that's interesting!

I like the Valextra Premier, AG Fronzoni was a famous Italian graphic designer, I think you may find it interesting:

"The Premier briefcase takes its inspiration from one of Valextra’s original icons of engineering beauty, the Forma Zero briefcase. Engineered in collaboration with the legendary AG Fronzoni, the Forma Zero celebrated purity of shape and construction, sentiments which the Premier Briefcase continues to evoke through a contemporary lens. Its rigid structure ensures belongings are safely encased, while its cushioned handle ensures comfort. Crafted from our signature Pavé calf skin in elegant Havana Brown, it is an icon of urban craft."

very very nice
I work remotely now so I don't even use my bags, but if I would need one I'd seriously reconsider this one

Back when I needed to be more formal in the workplace, I relied on a cognac croc-embossed briefcase that I bought from Lancel.

I still break it out from time to time when I have to attend high-powered meetings, but honestly, most of time, at my latest position, I try to duck out of having to bother with attending those in the first place!

I was ready for the return years ago. I can see the appeal to go back to business for dress for those returning to the office. I struggled to find options for so long that would properly store and carry the weight of a laptop while not sacrificing style. I'm remote these days, but the bags I did find that fit my criteria still have a place in my collection because I do not want to have to go through that search again.

I don't mind meetings so long as there's an end-time scheduled (which I have an alarm for :D ).

Briefcases don't date as much as bags.

I have a few too. Like you say, the difficulty is the balance between workhorse and stylish.

I feel my one is a thoroughbred :D It's not a fashion thing, it's a style thing.
