24 k gold is pure gold anything else is mixed. If they are plated or solid gold is something else, plated means that there is only a coating of gold which is what these probably are. Solid gold is gold all the way through, and therefore much more expensive.

Thank you so much
So those earrings are 14k (58.3 % gold) balls parts and post back are 14k gold , not plated right.
Something I looked online it said polished ball earrings. IS that the same as plated?

So
24 karat = 100% gold

Too soft for fine jewelry

22 karat = 91.7% gold

Too soft for fine jewelry

18 karat = 75.0% gold

Ideal for fine jewelry

14 karat = 58.3% gold

Ideal for fine jewelry

10 karat = 41.7% gold

Not acceptable for jewelry

Don't know about Sam's Club, but I've heard that Costco is good for jewelry, although sometimes it's a bit overpriced.

These days with the price of gold being so high it goes without saying that just about everything is hollow. But what you have to consider is how thin and lightweight the earring and its post is. You read reviews on some web sites in which customers complain that the gold earring posts are so thin they easily bend like straws or the earring backing is miniscule. I have no idea how substantial Costco's earrings are, but that is something you need to take into consideration.

I've been to a number of countries where 10kt was the norm and in England 9kt is not uncommon.

If they are hollow and bigger, they are more likely to dent. Mine are 5mm, probably hollow and have held up nicely. However I do lose one from time to time, and they are my "go to" earrings, so I'll often get a backup pair so I have a spare. Of course, bigger ones would be less likely to be lost, although you may need to replace the posts, but it's easy to find those.

On the denting.... I bought a pair of hollow gold earrings years ago from one the cable shopping channels before the price of gold sky rocketed. They are so thin that when I grasped one while putting it in my ear one side flattened. :nogood: I'm reluctant to buy any gold earrings these days for fear that they may be so thin they're fragile.
