Are facials worth it?

Buy yourself some Biore pore strips and some good quality face masks and advanced exfoliating products. I like Ren Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel mask. Clarins also has nice masks. Also get some nice serums or oils to apply. I think this is far better than going to a spa because it saves money and you can do the same thing at home, only more often.

I get a facial ever 4-8 weeks. I don't just do it for the skin care aspect. I find it relaxing. I have a skin care routine that I stick to, but I still find that getting the facial helps with any problems I might be having at the moment, such as extra dry spots or blemishes.

I am a facial fan. I have been getting them every 4-6 weeks since 2004 with the same esthetician!

I think I really lucked out with her, she is amazing and my skin is great. I go for the upkeep and the relaxation---it is definitely a special treat that I do for myself.:cloud9:

Getting regular facials doesn't mean you can neglect your daily skin care, I still maintain a comprehensive ritual. Also, facials aren't an end-all solution. Skin is a living, breathing thing so of course congestion, clogged pores, dryness etc will still occur. Facials will help you manage that and the experience itself is amazing!

Shop around, see what you can afford and look for that special connection. It should be a personal experience and one that you can enjoy. Good luck!:peace:

thank you everyone for your feedback! i mostly want a facial for the extractions and relaxation. i do keep up a good skin routine at home. still looking for NYC recommendations and any other input

I think it's worth it just for the relaxation and pampering. I get them maybe 2-3 times a year and while I don't see any real difference in my skin, my attitude and mindframe definitely improves. =)

I think Great Jones Spa is one of the best facials I've ever had ... they are extremely thorough with the extractions and use great products. It's pretty expensive so not sure I'd go very often but they are definitely superior to the other spas I've been to in NY.

i used to go to jurlique at 51/madison. ask for elizabeth. $110 (a year ago's price)
i like having facial..it does clean the pores. if you have healthy skin..you don't have to do it that often. she even recommened me twice a year when the season changes.
i haven't been gone since my pay cut. but i do facial at home weekly. still around the nose area is just always dirty.

I love facials and try to get them every few months. I had a neighbor who had incredibly saggy skin EVERYWHERE. She was european and had olive toned skin. She was pretty old. Her face was super tight though and not wrinkly like the rest of her body. In her country, they did facials all the time. She totally believes in it and got me hooked.
On the other hand, I have a friend who sells to dermatologists and another that's the director of a great spa in new york who says that facials don't really offer many benefits.
My dad says that the reason a man's face doesn't wrinkle as fast is because many of them shave and are taking off the dead skin off their face. Not sure whether it's true or not but I do believe that your face needs to be manipulated (not stretched) and rubbed and exfoliated. Wash cloths are a good thing to use too.

I think if you get facials regularly (especially european because they're not a bunch of crap just really good cleaning) then you will end up looking better when you're older. I only get facials once or twice a year for the extractions the rest i could easily do myself but I would never try to do my own extractions. I think its a must every one in a while

I get a facial every season. I enjoy it and I think it makes a difference. I do cleanse, tone, serum and mositurize 2x per day and exfoliate 2x per week. What I do at home doesn't feel anything like a facial. I would never go more than biweekly. Sometimes, to much of something turns out not to be good in the long run.

I personally love facials. I am not as consistent with them as I would like to or as I should  But I am extremely consistent with my skin care routine at home. I find facials extremely beneficial for my skin. I am now in the process of budgeting for a good series of peels and microdermabrasion to help with my acne scars. I know that every skin is different, but for me I do see a difference when I use good skin care as well as when I am in the routine of doing facials. My plan is to get back to once a month facials.

I think if you have never done one you should try it and see what you think. Make sure you go to a reputable place and with a good facialist. That makes a difference.

Good luck!

I haven't indulged - I get my nails done every 2 weeks and that's my maintenance must-have! I use a gentle facial sponge every morning to cleanse, take my makeup off every night and apply SKII and night cream. If I feel like something to prep my skin before a party or on a flight, I use an SKII mask - those things make your face glow, literally glow. I think I would probably enjoy a facial for the relaxation as others have said, more than for any actual improvement in skin tone.

i used to go reguarly but since i bought my clarasonic, i dont feel likei need to anymore
ive also been doing at home glycolic treatments

when i got my facials, I would go to Bliss in NYC on Broadway
im thinking of going back bc I want to try an oxygen facial and I cant do that at home...

I get facials once per month. I have always had great skin, which is in part due to genetics as my mom has great skin as well. I've always been a huge water drinker though which is great for your skin. I take very good care of my skin at home daily and treat myself to monthly facials mainly for the relaxation aspect as the place I go to it is much more than just a facial. They massage both arms from finger tips to shoulders, massage your neck/throat, décolleté and shoulders both back and front and your scalp as well if you wish (which I always decline), as well as everything they do for your face itself. It is incredibly relaxing.

This place is very inexpensive as I am a member and though their membership fees have increased since three years ago when I joined, I am still paying the monthly price from when I signed up.
