Does anone remember about 5 years ago when brooches were is every magazine and people stuck them anywhere that fit? What happened to them? They never get any love on this forum. Does anybody wears brooches and if so how? I have two equestrian brooches and I wear them on a girly cardigan.

Are you referring to the really large oversized type pins - set with a lot of stones/sparkly or your basic pin (like a little heart or butterfly, etc.) A big brooch (such as vintage) can really be the accessory on a simple dress. When women wore suits (with lapels) adding a pin was very common. I have some really pretty pins I have collected over the years but I hardly remember to wear them and most times I am dressed so casually they just don't seem appropriate.

I agree. It totally depends on the style of brooch, how and where it is worn and the style of the outfit. Like lilach said, brooches existed long, long before the trend and will outlast any season or fad.

I have worn brooches for years. I love vintage rhinestone, and still wear them all the time! I was really bummed when they became trendy, because it used to be kind of my "thing". I put them away for a while, but have recently started wearing them again! Here is a recent pic of me with a vintage rhinestone brooch layered with a flower brooch.....

To me, its a bit like saying "are jeans classic or tragic"? Its all about how you wear them, this goes for brooches and jeans. There are so many different styles out there, if you find one that works for you, go for it.

I think they'll always be around! Brooches have come in and out of fashion at least twice that I can remember... once when I was a teen and then again a little while ago - but both times I wore my grandmother's old ones and they totally came back in fashion!

I agree, it's how you rock it that makes it classic or tragic! :) If you buy a "classic" one (ie maybe not one that says "HOTTIE" in rhinestones, LOL!) you'll wear it forever.

I flove brooches, I got most of mine when they were popular like 5 years ago but I've been wearing them nonstop since. I'm glad to see they're back again, I just got a really awesome rhinestone one in the shape of a heart that can also be worn as a pendant. I wear them for dressy or casual, they are just so fun! I mostly wear them pinned at the bottom of the V on a lower cut V-neck shirt/dress or cami. I have worn them on jacket lapels, but less often just b/c I rarely wear jackets. They can make a plainer outfit look really eye-catching.

I love brooches.
I got bunch of vintage ones on Portobello market few weeks ago - wooden squirel and rhistone cats in different sizes.
I wear the wooden one on it's own, usually on a belted cardie and for the cats, I groupe them together on a white T.
Last time I went to Portobello, the man selling them wasn't around...

Yes but also more fun ocassions ones like enamel or glass work. Even when I dress for work I do not like the suit look much.

You look so cute in the pic. I feel the same way to. I always had an angel brooch or my initial as a kid. But I feel like when I wear them people look at me like a mishape.
