I was browsing bonanza and it seems the older bags have stretched or floppy handles. ( my older bag has this too and I got turned off of RM) but the basketweave bags have handles that look better.

Is that just coincidence or do those handles hold up better?

Hi cola! I have a couple of old school bags and they do have that floppy handles issue. I read that RM has resolved this issue on the newer releases. I newer ones (PH Zip MAM and B&W Straw MAM) and I will say that the handles of these 2 appear more sturdy. HTH

Can't think of an actual reason why they would hold up better than the normal leather handles on the older collection bags that all had the known floppy handle issue, but I will say that the basketweave bags I've had didn't seem to have floppy handles, or at least not yet. So maybe there's something to that? Hopefully more can comment on theirs.
