Thanks so much, Fleurs! I though it was authentic, but I wanted to hear from the pros from Dover first. The seller's first response didn't sit well with me too, so I really wanted to hear from someone here. Thanks! :flowers:

By the way, do you happen to know what year the Kelly had the shoulder strap added as "standard equipment"? I'm thinking it was in the 80's, but was it before that?

Hi

My pleasuure . I must admit I've not followed the shoulder strap mystery but if they don't have one it may have been lost or sold, I've done both with new Kellys that originally came equipped with one. But the Kelly itself looks fine.

I have to be honest I don't know when Kellys started to come with shoulder straps or the extra D ring but these are two different dates. I think probably late 80's the strap came in and then from about 2000 the D ring. I've been through all my old pictures but no definate answer as yet.

Best wishes

Fleurs.

Hi

This Kelly looks absolutely fine to me, can't see any areas of concern.

I asked the seller about the missing shoulder strap and got this reply:

Let's just say I sent him a reply with correct information about Kelly shoulder straps.

Now I'm wondering if this is an authentic Kelly....

He says in the auction that if it isn't shown in the photos it isn't included. I don't see the lock, tirette, clochette or keys in addition to not seeing the strap.

comments: is it okay that it does not come with a dustbag? does it hurt the value of the bag?

Thank you!

Lovemydeal they are ALL good, reputable seller. Price wise yes..a new Kelly would be over 7000... I myself had very good experience with Let-Trade... Do you have your own dustbag ? I don't need the dustbags... though when I travel and bring the bag I do put them in the dustbags...

Am I right in thinking that this thread is not about commenting on the fairness of price but only authenticity..:shrugs:? Edit: just asking because of recent discussions about keeping the thread as uncluttered as possible.

I believe the extra D ring was added in 2001, but don't quote me on that. ;)

As far as including a shoulder strap with the Kelly, I'm with you: I'm also thinking it was in the late 80's. I tried searching it up here yesterday, but no luck.

On that particular auction, he says it's a new bag (and it does have the extra D ring), so I would expect and hope it would have a shoulder strap.

KG: I was so caught up in the shoulder strap drama with this guy that I didn't even notice the lock/clochette/keys weren't pictured either. Back to the Ask Seller a Question button! :wlae:

Maybe I am loose (!) but I never mind the price question when it is combined with the authenticity question--it seems to a very reasonable "connected" question when a poster is considering a purchase. The next most logical place to really ask would be on the eBay/online Finds thread, but it would be dangerous to post an item there before determining authenticity, as someone reading that thread would assume authenticity was not an issue and might bid on a bag that turned out to be bad.

This is a pre-purchase/learning arena of sorts and for me, answering the rare price question falls into the helpful spirit of the thread. Sometimes the question is critical--if the price is far too low it raises red flags. Too high? In the spirit of helping we can simply tell the poster who poses the question that a bag might be legitimate but could be better bought elsewhere, whether at retail or through a trusted seller. In today's market in particular the chance to buy a bag for a more reasonable price than a year ago is very real.

I do not think new members should be afraid to ask related questions here--if there is a better place we can always refer them to the appropriate thread.

Sorry, if I was not supposed to ask this question. I know everything is subjective and what I think is fair someone else may not. But, I honestly, don't know much about Hermes and just wanted someone's input.

OK, apparently they are slackers in the photo department. Just heard back. The shoulder strap, the lock, the keys and the clochette are all included in spite of the "if it's not in the picture" disclaimer.

Wish I wasn't dirt poor. I'd love to jump into the bidding on this one. I miss my 35 Kelly so bad! :girlsigh:
