anyone remember Searle coats?

This is going back to the 1990s, but I still miss my Searle (aka Steve by Searle) wool/cashmere coats -- you could get them with fake or real fur collars. They were so well made and lasted for years. I had a swing coat (I wish more brands made swing coats) in dark green wool/cashmere with a fake fur collar and a full length coat in rich chocolate with a fur collar. I got mine at Saks but I think they were sold in several other places. It's the one cloth coat brand that I might choose over Max Mara. Alas, they seem to have gone out of business. Dang.

I had a black Searle peacoat that I bought from Nordstrom Seattle or Bellevue. The coat was a wool cashmere blend, slightly cropped (around hip length). I loved wearing a striped turtleneck and dark wash jeans with it. It was one of my favourite coats! Such a shame the brand no longer exists.

I remember Searle! Some things were just easier to find back then.

On a related note, I was happy to see that Fleurette is back and making very stylish, classic coats. They're not cheap, but they're very well made and much less than Loro Piana (it's the same cashmere). I bought a coat last fall and I just love it.

Yes! I remember Searle. I had a black long swing coat with a hood edged with fur. I loved that coat and felt so cool with the hood on when it snowed.

But, similar to you, my love now is Max Mara. I love their coats (and suits too for business).

I miss my Searle coat!! I had a brown shearling coat with a fur hood, and a black wool/cashmere one. I also like Max Mara! I've recently been eying a Loro Piana coat.

I love Max Mara, and to me, one of the beauties of a Max Mara coat is their bold top stitched edge.
I say this because if you need to shorten your sleeves, be sure to take it back to Max Mara so you retain the same beautiful top stitched edge on the sleeves (most tailors cannot create the same stitch). Not all of their coats have the that top stitch on the edge (I have a coat that does not), but the Manuela does have it.

If Searle was still around and still making their coats to their previous quality standards (and also still making them in the US), I would buy one in a minute, choosing them even over Max Mara. I gravitated to MM only because Searle had gone. I would love to get my hands on a new Searle swing coat that was beautifully made and available in rich, flattering colors -- like they used to be.

I love their coats. I find them second hand . I think I have 3. They last forever. I feel it is a little known brand now . You only know how great they are when you find one. I have 2 black and 1 brown ! The brown is my fav right now. Faux fur trim !

I remember searle too. I went through a searle phase (peaking when I was in law school in 1994). Then a Max Mara phase. Now I love long vintage coats or Brunello

I still have S&S Faux Fur Collar Long swing coat. I haven't worn it since the 90s. I bought near wall street in NYC. I honestly cannot remember where...
