Anyone had gold hardware replating done by Leather Surgeon?

Hi all, I recently purchased a vintage bag, and since there’s some chipping along the edges of the CC, I emailed Gerry to get a quote for replating. Gerry said replating can be done on the CC, and he advised to have replating done on the chain as well so that the gold color would match, however, he said that they cannot replate the grommets (the rings the chain passess through). They are bent onto the bag when installed so they are destroyed when they are removed. Gerry can either replace them, or just leave them as is. My initial reaction is to leave them as is since the grommets had no chipping or gold worn off and exposing the silver color, though they are more like matte pale yellow gold. But now I’m wondering if it’s better to also replace the grommets so that all hardware match? I also don’t know if the grommets they use for replacement are considered “after market” parts? So for those of you who have had experience with LS on replating the gold hardware of your vintage Chanel bags, did you leave the grommets as-is or also had them replaced? Attached is a pic of the CC of my bag. You can see the chipping when the bag is opened.

The cc chipping in the picture is not anywhere near a level I would have fixed.

It is a vintage bag and having non authentic grommets or mismatched coloring would bother me WAY more than the minimal chipping pictured.

I also prefer to leave the grommets alone, but now that I look at the bag, I don't know if the grommets were originally supposed to match the chain and the CC lock to begin with because the grommets seem to have a matte finish, versus the CC lock & chain are shiny even with chipping/gold slightly worn out now.

I would leave it alone too since it's plated 24k. If you replace it, it probably won't be 24k. Does the turnlock probably hide the chipping?
You mean leave the grommets alone?
You cannot see the chipping when the turn lock is closed. But I think it will get worse over time, which is why I prefer to replate it.

Hi! I know it's been a little while since this was posted. Did you end up going with Leather Surgeons? Would love to see how the CC turned out, if so! I sent something in to have my 24k gold HW (vintage piece) replated. I can't wait to see it. He did share that all replating is done with 3 microns of 24k gold, which is industry standard and most likely what is on the original vintage HW. Chanel themselves would only replate with 10k which is a shame! Thanks in advance

You can see the after photo here. https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/the-vintage-thread.833567/post-34367084

Would love to see your before and afters! After the replating, were you still able to see prior scratches on the hardware?
It’s a reissue but there is a difference with the clasp as well as the chain. Here’s my pics. Hope this help. If you do Instagram look up leatherSurgeons. There’s a lot of before and after pics.
