1/4 carat Tiffany setting diamond solitaire engagement ring? I'm trying to decide between a victorian cut diamond from about the 1890's, which is roughly .70 of a carat between an H-I in colour and SI1. which would be in its current setting just under £2000. I would look to have it reset in the future though as I don't much like the current setting. My jeweller knows I like vintage pieces and he thinks this is a lovely stone and that its great value for money. Or a Tiffany .25 carat diamond solitaire for about £1375. Is a Tiffany diamond worth the money, would it be beautifully sparkly or would we just be paying for the name? Should I go vintage or new? Any help gratefully received. :smile1:

This will not be a traditional engagement ring as such as I'm already married (10th anniversary next year) but never got properly proposed to and hence didn't get an engagement ring! I'm not exactly in a rush and will wait and shop around for the perfect diamond (ring) for me. So if you guys think neither sounds good I'll bear that in mind.

If you love the victorian, get that. I think you can get good stones from Tiffany's but you are going to have to do a lot of work to get one, and being uneducated about cut (cut is the single most important part of it!) is going to work against you. Cut is what makes the stone beautifully sparkly.

You can better spend the money you have budgeted and get more for the budget if you want a traditional modern solitaire by going outside of Tiffany (online, specifically from Blue Nile or the states).

Thanks for your input. I know a little about cut but not a lot. Is a Victorian cut a good cut for a diamond?

Victorian Cut brand or Victorian era diamond? Big difference.

A true antique diamond would have to be seen in person, so I can't really tell you about that without actually seeing it.

I'm a sucker for an old stone!! ImageUploadedByPurseForum1379149124.252999.jpg
