I saw a lady with a large emerald cut black diamond with a halo (of course) and thin pave band - and thought huh black diamonds look kind of awesome.

I'm thinking of getting a right hand ring, but I don't know anything about black diamonds, except that they seem to be pretty affordable compared to white diamonds. I love black and white and graphic prints, so this black and white ring combo is speaking to me big time.

Anyone have any info, photos of your own rings/pieces?

Yesterday i got my e-ring upgrade :) a black diamond and its amazing ... black diamond are cheaper if you go for heated means its a white diamond to start with it and they treat it to obtain a black color ... natural black diamond exist but very rare and a 2 carat can reach (in my country) around 70 000 usd So IMG_1476501950.502741.jpgIMG_1476501982.139698.jpg

A friend's wife has a natural black diamond, it is more of a grey color and it is spectacular! I forget the cut now because she never wears it (I don't know why!). I think it has a halo, might be more than 1 carat she is petite so it looks quite big on her. Can't believe what it must have cost!

When I saw the black diamonds at our local jeweller he explained that the price was low because the diamonds are lower quality & heat treated. He was very open about this.

I was a bit concerned that the lower quality might have inclusions that could make a necklace in this instance more fragile. He could not reassure me about this.

I'd say if the price was right and you love the piece go for it.

Years & years ago I saw what I would call a dirty Victorian diamond bracelet at an auction. The stones glowed & sparkled but didn't flash. Wouldn't say they were black but very dark grey & extremely sophisticated. The setting was pink gold and of its period, somewhat ornate.

The auctioneer, a good friend said I should buy it as it would be unlightly he would see another.

I lost to a phone bid from a European buyer who made it clear he was going to win at all costs. I went well above the highest estimate my friend recommended.

Afterwards when we did a rehash of the auction he told me it was going to be broken up. This is one of my few auction regrets.
