I’m increasingly interested to buy a piece from Anabela Chan. Her designs are sooo dreamy yet she is using lab grown gemstones. I don’t really have anything against lab grown gemstones but want to know your opinion!

Labgrown gemstones are literally worthless on the secondary market. One should not buy jewelry for resale value, but to me, lab grown is a fancy name for fake stones. Yes, the companies positions labgrown as chemically the same, ethically grown, but it takes energy to grow them so it’s not exactly “save the earth”.

My two cents is that is a lot of money to pay for fake stones. Also, her designs are dreamy as you say, but also, those designs if they used real stones would be quite prIcey. Therefore, if you wore those pieces, people would assume it’s costume jewelry anyway so why not just get costume jewelry?

I would not pay a premium for fake. Just go costume all the way.

That’s just me... hope my two cents helped a bit.

I wouldn't consider it costume jewelry in the slightest, and if you like the design then go for it!
Cheap costume jewelry doesn't hold up to daily wear, with the finish peeling and/or the plastic stones chipping (plus it looks cheap, since the materials are light and hollow!). Since she designs in 18k gold with chemically identical labgrown stones, I think it's a great way to get beautiful wearables for less.

I hadn’t heard of her so looked her up. Beautiful designs, but all that I’ve seen are vermeil, not solid gold, so they wouldn’t hold up to daily wear and for the money I think you could get something solid. I have to agree that it’s poor value. So pretty though.

oh good catch! I'd assumed 18k because of the prices. If it's vermeil, wow, unless you REALLY like the designs and aren't too hard on your jewelry (AND don't have metal allergies)... I'd look elsewhere.

That’s my concern as well I was hoping for at least 18k gold ring or smth but nah. Well then thank you guyssss for answering!!!

I bought several pieces from her, before I knew and realized what plated vermeil means. I was simply assuming they are gold and actual lab grown diamonds. But they are simply crystal, cubic zirconia - not even actual lab grown diamonds (she says simulated lab grown).

I can’t resell them ANYWHERE and Vestiare won’t even accept her brand. It’s total disaster. For me, she is all smoke and mirrors. Clever language and marketing. Biggest purchase regret of my life!!!

I actually really like this brand, beautiful designs and I think the quality is good. I would not call her smoke and mirrors since she lists exactly what each piece contains and frankly I think that’s obvious from the prices which are pretty good, again a reflection of what you are getting.

That being said, I don’t know why she just doesn’t use lab diamonds as they are pretty cheap right now but I’m happy with the earrings I bought. If they were solid gold I’m sure they would have been more expensive.
