Hello! I am finally (momentarily) stepping away from my Frivole collection and getting around to ticking off completing my YG MOP set and am trying to decide between YG MOP 10 and 20. I’ve got Vintage earrings and 5 motif already in YG MOP. I’ve looked through the ‘Share your 10’ and ‘Share your 20’ threads for reference. I tried on the 20 the other day and it was gorgeous of course but I’m questioning whether I would make great use of it. I did like the versatility of the length but honestly feel that for my lifestyle I would wear the 10 more frequently. But once in a while I’m sure I would love wearing the 20! For those of you who own a 10 and/or 20, I would love to know if you prefer one or the other and why. I feel the look of the 10 is neat and tidy. Yes I can wear the 20 as a 10 with motifs hanging down the back but that seems like a lot of work, haha.
Thanks in advance for your input!

P.S. I might not wear all 3 pieces together but love knowing I have that option. I would love to add a magic between the finger ring for more options to play around with!

If you feel you would get the most use out of the 10 motif then I’d get that. I have the hammered yg 10 and love it. I also have the 6 motif and it is BEAUTIFUL and I love it, but it doesn’t get as much wear. I’m glad I own it, but the one you wear more will give you so much more satisfaction.

Editing to add, I wear my 10 motif often. It‘s an extremely wearable necklace. The 20 is beautiful but on me, it would be far less versatile.

I haven't tried on the 6 motif but have been quite curious about how it would look on me. It's a cool piece and I think it would be an incredible accessory to complete an outfit! Which stone combo do you have? Thanks for your input. The 10 does seem so wearable!

I find the six motif is more versatile than either the 10 or 20 which I have also considered.

The six has a bit more dimension than the ten. And, if you want to have a simpler look, you can always tuck the dangling motifs into a t shirt collar.

@Peonies813, @Yodabest , I am also short 5’2, and I find that the 20 simply didn’t look right on me. I have the gray magic MOP six motif

Pics: six tucked in and worn as per usual

The six motif is the only one I didn't try. I'll have to pop in to the boutique soon before I decide. A 10 or 20 have always been on my list as they are to me iconic Alhambra but I love the character of the six motif.

I hear you about the 20 on a not so tall person. I am 5'1" and there was a lot of length on the 20 for me!

I have the yellow gold with MOP, GMOP, and onyx. Part of what keeps me from wearing it as often as I’d like is my toddler who would grab at those motifs in a hot minute.

Similar to @880 my height is what keeps the 20 motif from being as versatile as the 10. I’m 5’ tall, for reference.

Haha, and I, 5’1” … I love the combo you have. If I’m determined I’ll stay focused on the 10 (or 20 ) and later will add the 6 motif!

I find that for me, my format preferences change over time and then eventually cycle back again. For awhile, I only wore 20s, as they could be both dressy or casual/boho, and felt that 10s were too fussy and conservative for me. Now I am only wearing 10s and find they are easy to wear with casual clothes or work clothing. For awhile in between I was wearing magic pendants a lot! I would buy the one that resonates the most with you now and then add another down the road if you want more variety. I will say that we rarely "downgrade" in our taste, so if you find that you love the 10 and 20 MOP equally, perhaps get the 20 now and then save for a pave 10 down the road if you start to feel that your collection is missing a 10 motif. Once I added a pave 10, I fell in love with the format again, and oddly, I feel like a pave 10 is the most versatile because it can be worn formally (other 10s seem better for casual or for workwear to me), but also still casually since it is not too blingy after all. On the other hand, you could also add a 6 motif magic down the road instead for a different look, if you want more variety. Or you could add a 10 in hammered gold or a colored stone for more variety. (Or if you find the 10 resonates more now, the same advice applies, but then get the 10 MOP now and perhaps a hammered gold 20 down the road). Though a whole suite of MOP would be wonderful also!

I suppose my long advice boils down to: buy what works best for you now, then in the future you can add another piece that will add to your options. Most likely you will continue to wear your first choice as well, even if you set it aside for a few years and then come back to it again.

This is exactly it. I couldn't agree more. You are absolutely right. If I decide and am lucky enough down the line getting another 10 or 20 it'll be even more of a special piece. But for now, I am feeling like 10 is calling my name. There will always be something gorgeous down the line, something else to add to my collections so like you said, I'll buy what I love most now and will get most use out of. Over the years, I've realized that the best time to wear my favorite things is now and there's no point in saving for special occasions (unless it's just some super sparkly big piece which in certain settings may seem ostentatious or slightly tone deaf).

I like a varied collection but for the YG MOP I wanted to make sure that I got at least 3 pieces to tie everything together, the vintage in stones is so classic and elegant. And as you said, I'll be super happy with it and if I tire of it then I can wear something else but pretty sure will return to it as it's such a gorgeous set in my opinion. And YES to one day having a whole suite of MOP!!

I am so glad to hear this. You learned this much more quickly than I did, and I wholeheartedly agree with your statement that, "There will always be something gorgeous down the line, something else to add to my collection; I'll buy what I love most now and will get most use out of; I've realized that the best time to wear my favorite things is now."

I think the 10 motif MOP will be the perfect addition to your collection to maximize your use and enjoyment for *now*; wear the heck out of it, and in time you can be delighted and surprised if another format starts to call your name as well!

I just purchased my first 10 motif onyx necklace not that long ago. I was trying to decide between that, the 20, and the magic pendant. I found that I do not tend to wear long necklaces often and I already had a jewelry box full of pendants. As lisawhit had suggested about combining the 10 with the 5 bracelet was what decided it for me to have the flexibility of occasionally having it long vs. my shorter preferred length.

This is a bit weird, but when I go to try on jewelry, I need to take a full length action shot of me trying it on, including head and shoes. i also need to wear something plain, but not exercise clothes. I would normally wear like black sweater and charcoal gray pants. And, if I am feeling chunky, I find all jewelry looks better in my action shots if I wear oversized sunglasses. And, if I am comparing a few different things, the action shots kind of have to be the same distance, scale.
maybe other people just know by sitting at the counter and looking at their neck, but I never do.

ETA: while I may browse with girlfriends, I would never buy jewelry in their presence. Bc in their desire to be supportive and loving, they are often too positive. Apologies if this is all obvious common knowledge :)
