Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting in the Goyard section. I’ve been wanting to purchase a grey St Louis PM for a while now but have been wary due to the many comments about the handles cracking, melting etc.
From my research it seems like the handles had some problems with the sealant melting but this was a few years ago. My question is if any of you have had any issues with newer models in regards to the edges of the handles becoming sticky, transferring color onto clothes or ‘melting’ for lack of a better word. I know cracking can happen with use but the whole melting thing was a big concern since I really don’t want to have to send the bag to have it repaired. I don’t have a store in my state so it would be kind of a hassle.
I appreciate any input. Thank you all so much!

I have a friend with the same St. Louis GM in Black Goyardine as I do, and his handles began to crack after two years. Granted, he was using it to tote around a laptop, binders, etc. for work which stressed the handles but it still is disappointing considering the price point for the bag and seeing as it IS a large tote that competes with the indestructible (IMO) LV Neverfull which CAN be loaded up with quite a bit. My St. Louis was purchased in January of this year and I haven't had any issues with it - but I only put no more than a few SLGs and a water bottle in it to prevent the handles from cracking the best I can.

Thanks for your reply! I agree it is a shame the handles don’t last longer but I guess it’s inevitable if you carry a lot. I did end up purchasing one and like you I don’t carry a lot in mine. It’s good to hear that yours has been holding up well.
I’ve been using mine daily and so far so good!
Thanks again for your input!

I purchased one of the totes with the zipper back at the store in Paris May 2017 - the handles started cracking last year and I kept it in its bag and tried to not bend the handles as noted by the company. This summer, and I know I live in NYC, but we keep our air on, the sealant on the handles did start to melt- they stuck together and then when I put it on a bench against my wall, it stuck to the wall and left a small orange mark. I ended up not using it at all this summer b/c when I touched the sealant/handles, it was actually soft and malleable. I'm going to connect with Goyard today and ask what to do, as this bag was too much to have these issues 2 years in.

The handles seem to be hit or miss. I have a 3 year old GM and I have put it through the wringer. It’s my carry-on for family vacations - computer, notebooks, Diet Cokes, shoes, books and newspapers that weigh a ton - and my tennis bag, my beach bag and go-to whenever I have a ton of stuff. I have overloaded it with heavy stuff and my handles look perfect. I have some wear on the bottom from tossing it on cement tennis courts and shoving it under airplane seats, but the handles don’t show a thing. I live in Chicago, where we have hot and humid summer days and polar vortexes, and it still looks great. I may just have gotten a good batch, but I haven’t had any quality issues. I also have a PM and an MM Artois and have had similar experiences but those haven’t been as abused. The Artois is my regular work bag and I use the PM more as a purse.

Bump. Also would like to know about whether the newer straps are still “melting” or did they fix/change the sealant problem? I wouldn’t mind it cracking either but that melting problem sounds horrendous:shocked::shocked::shocked:

I have the Goyard St Louis PM in black. I purchased it in London June 2018. I've used it pretty often and even store it under the seat of airplanes. I don't put laptops or anything extremely heavy in it (I just don't like carrying heavy bags). Once I left it in the car in Tahoe in a very cold winter and it got really stiff (I worried I ruined it!), but after it warmed up it was back to normal. I've seen a lot of postings on here about cracking and quality, but I have not experienced any of that thus far. A great grab and go bag in my opinion!

I’m wondering if anyone has tried a leather conditioner on the straps to prevent cracking? I just received my first Goyard, a St Louis PM so just wondering if using a conditioner would prevent this. I’m not planning on using it for heavy items. TIA!
