Hi Everyone, I have quite a bit of Amex points that I would love to use to purchase a Chanel bag. I was thinking of using them to buy Saks Gift Cards and purchase the purse that way. Has anyone done this before? I want to make sure this is doable before I transfer the points. I would be purchasing through a sales associate since Chanel is not sold in my city. I think I had read in a very old thread that there were restrictions on this althoughI don't see it in the Terms & Conditions. I do have a Saks with Chanel a couple of hours from my city so I could make the drive if I absolutely had to. Any thoughts?

Thank you everyone!!! Glad to hear I can do it. I see more Chanels in my future
Yes, I do this. I will say that I get a few double looks when saying I have multiple high dollar amount gift cards. You can choose paper gift cards and print away or snail mail plastic ones. I’ll say, I feel like I sometimes lose the paper ones. May be worth the wait to get the plastic ones.

I'm not sure if they still allow this - but several years ago they allowed me to pay off my saks store card using saks gift card that I got issued from Amex. I had to call in the request but they did allow it! What was nice was that I was able to get Saks points for my purchase as well.

Just an update for anyone that is following: I did end up purchasing my Chanel through Saks with my Amex points. It was such an easy process! I just purchased e-gift cards through the Amex portal and sent the screenshots to my SA at Saks. The whole process took less than 10 minutes and was all done via text with my SA. I will definitely be buying more Chanels with points again! On a side note, I do have a pretty good relationship with my SA so she was very accomodating.

I use the Platinum and the Business Platinum. I used to have Gold because I didn't want to pay such a high annual fee for my personal one, but it's totally worth it.
That's interesting and good to know. I have Gold because I don't want to pay a high annual feel but I may look into the Platinum as they are always offering it to me.
