Hi Ame
Was hoping you could give me your thoughts on a stone I am considering purchasing to have a custom pendant made. The stone is as follows:
Rd Modified Brillant
.75
J, VS2
5.85-5.91x3.59 mm
Depth 61%
Table 55%
Med. to slightly thick girdle, faceted
Polish - Good
Symmetry - Very Good
Fluorsecence - none
Price - 1729.00
GIA Cert.

TIA

Do you have more information? I need more details on the angles than that. At glance it should be good. But I need the crown and pavilion angles (degrees, not percents).

Ame

Thanks for your response. I did not see anything on the additional information you requested. This was a listing on Ebay and that was all the information they provided. Can you give me a general idea of what I should be looking for when choosing the stone in this range (.70 - .75) ? Thanks again for your feedback.

You want a quality cut stone, and you need the angles and plot whenever you can get them to see what you're buying. You can't judge the cut really without those angles or have an idea of clarity without the plot, photos can be photoshopped. Do they provide a return policy? Can you take it to be appraised or checked out if you purchase it and return it for a full 100% refund if you get it and it doesn't match the report info or isn't legit when you get it?

Ame

On this particular stone I am able to return for a full refund if I don't like it. I just wanted to get a better idea of what I should be looking for. Regarding stones from Blue Nile, are the ones that are ideal or very good cut typically considered a good stone. From what you stated earlier, looks like I should be focused on the cut of the stone.

Yea Signature Ideal, Ideal and SOME of the Very Goods will be winners. If you can search for a 55 table and a 59-61.5 range on depth you'll likely get some good ones. Then when you get the stones up you can view the reports and get the actual angles. Just because they're in that range doesn't mean all the angles automatically work. They are more LIKELY to.

Ame, I think I have found two stones at BN that I think will work for me. They are both very close in specs, except one has a little better clarity and one has better angles. Would it be best to go with better clarity or angles? Also, will I be ok with J color as far as seeing no yellow? Here are the specs:

.71 .70
J, SI1 J, SI2
57 table 57
61.2 depth 61.6
35.5 34.5
40.6 40.8
$1605 $1606
