Amazing footage of 30 giant Japanese hornets attacking beehive

The video, from a National Geographic documentary called Hornets From Hell, shows a full-scale attack on the honeybees' comb in order that the hornets can get at their larvae.

The mass slaughter is possible because the European honeybees did not grow up around the Japanese hornets and thus have no defence against them.

Honestly, I wasn't really thinking about that while I was watching it. I saw the pictures first. Then I watched the video.


It wasn't until I saw the aftermath that the sheer number just hit me: 30,000 bees were killed, all the larvae are dead and it was just a massacre.
