I own a 10 motif YG onyx and a 20 motif TE Alhambra necklace. I was planning on purchasing matching earrings for each however I was really disappointed with how the onyx earrings looked on me. I am Asian with black hair which I normally wear down and it disappears on me. The TE earrings are unobtainable for me currently but would they go with either necklace when back in stock or should I consider the hammered, pave, or Guilloche earrings instead. I was hoping to have a matching set.

If the onyx earrings aren't showing up in a manner that works for you, I'd explore other options
There are other choices that don't have to be so matchy matchy that add another dimension
I'd keep an open mind & try on the hammered, pave or Guilloche & see how they work
Would you always be wearing the necklace with the earrings?

I tend to prefer matching sets and wearing them alone when at work since earrings are my only allowable jewelry. I want earrings to match the necklaces while out after work. I plan to get the matching tiger eye when they get back in stock next year. I am hoping that they do not get lost in my hair like the onyx. I have not seen the yellow gold Guilloche earrings in person and was wondering if it looks only good with other Guilloche pieces or if people have mixed it successfully with stone pieces.

Have you tried the Magic size? I think the onyx looks much better in Magic.
I don’t live near a VCA. I have not ever seen any magic earrings in person but they do look very dramatic online. I bought the white gold Guilloche earrings on vacation. I loved those but did not see any of the YG options which were not in stock except for the onyx. I like to try earrings on since I won’t wear earrings that are heavy or that I constantly feel. @marbella8 how much heavier are the magic than the vintage. To wear the vintage comfortably I had the posts moved to the highest setting. I assume the same could be done with other sizes?

My gut response was hammered since that is very wearable for everyday and if worn with your MOP or TE would match and still let the necklace be the star. If you want something that pops and you’re not hesitant about being a wee bit more blingy more I would do pave, as the could still go with your necklaces, or look fab with any other YG jewelry, or on its own with no necklace. That’s how I usually wear my pave vintage earrings, seldom with a necklace. If you wanted a bold statement, I would do guilloche which would also go with your necklaces, but that may end up being the star because they are so attention grabbing, at least to me. They are more #lookatme than the pave in my opinion. Nothing wrong with that. I have guilloche earrings on my list too.

Thanks @EpiFanatic. From your response I think I am going to forgo getting the tiger eye earrings and the hammered and instead get the pave vintage to go with both necklaces. I think I like having something a little more blingy but low maintenance. The size of the vintage pave would allow me to wear them at work too. Since I have the white gold Guilloche earrings which were a total impulse buy since I thought they were so pretty in the store, I won’t get the yellow gold so I can have some variety with my VCA collection. Now I will have to wait for them to come back into stock

Good luck! Get on that list.

I read this thread last night and was pondering your dilemma. Sounds like you have come to a bit of a decision, so let me offer some unsolicited thoughts to muddy the waters.

First and foremost, I am insanely jealous of your TE 20 motif! :woot: Now that we have that out of the way, I would tend to agree that Onyx will be a little lost with black hair. I think that a pop would be really fun and my first reaction is to wait for the TE if you can, or even SO if that is an option for you... I SO'd the Magic TE and they are by far my most worn; I absolutely love them! My second choice, that said, would surprisingly be the Onyx despite the fact that indeed, black will not pop if your hair is down. The reason I say Onyx is because you seem to want a set, and to me, the hammered and the pave do not lend themselves to a set. I think that the Onyx would also mimic some of the darker striations that TE tends to have, and obviously goes with your 10 motif. This could be just totally my opinion and how I perceive the aesthetics, but these are my thoughts. I will note that if you did go Onyx, I would 10000% do the Magic size versus Vintage just to give them a little more oomph.

If we are forgetting about your desire for more of a set, then I would go pave and then hammered, in that order. (I do also agree with @EpiFanatic per usual... the hammered are SUPER wearable and a great investment.. worth the wait.)

@jenayb thanks for your advice. So many choices. I will check with my SA about getting a couple of options at the store next time I am in town. I am pretty new in starting my VCA collection so the special order option would not be applicable to me. I will see if I can put a deposit next year when he said that inventory would be better and try some of these in person

@Hiker4life- I have never tried the Magic, but in retrospect, I should’ve gotten Magic hammered instead of the vintage size for earrings. That being said, I think in the onyx, they’ll weigh more but probably not much, as onyx isn’t that heavy, versus the all gold.

I have 2 friends that have the Magic onyx and one who has the vintage size. I definitely prefer the Magic with Onyx, they stand out and have oomph. Otherwise, a Magic Size in TE sounds great. Just ask your SA and maybe they’ll do it? Good luck!

I agree with the vintage pave earrings. I wear mine almost every day and wear them with all of my 10 and 20 motifs.

Thanks for the info @marbella8 When the SA saw my disappointed look on my face trying on the onyx earrings, she grabbed a pair of WG Guilloche earrings that I tried on the other ear and with one on each side, the Guilloche were definitely slightly heavier. I had to admit that I fell in love with the Guilloche and just bought them on the spot. Inventory was really low in the store and was unable to see or try any magic earrings. I don’t have any experience to know if this is how it will always be and I need to get used to placing deposits just to try on multiple items.

Oh those are gorgeous and so shiny. I love the guilloche for earrings, because they are shiny and will definitely complement dark hair so beautifully! That’s a perfect earring you can wear everyday. Ask your SA to put a deposit on the Hammered and Onyx Magic. Good luck and congrats on the new earrings!

I wear them with my Chalcedony 10+5 since I would not be able to qualify for a SO for the matching earrings. Thanks for all of your helpful advice. I have spent so much this year. VCA has been a slippery slope
