Travel Airline Horror Stories?????lol!

On the same trip back from Tennessee - the plane was on the runway and then went back to the gate 'because of mechanical problems'. People came and started tinkering inside the cabin for about 1 hr before we were set to take off again.

Flying over NY, the plane encountered turbulence - the pilot didn't warn us and the plane suddenly dropped. Man, I thought I was DEAD!

Once we were out of turbulence I found that I had been hanging onto the hand of the woman sitting next to me. I didn't know who on earth she was, but we held hands until the plane landed!

Jill - I can totally understand and relate to how everybody felt about the delays ... glad you got home safe and sound.

I've travelled a lot and have been fortunate so far with few incidents. But I did have a very unpleasant experience with Hawaiian Airlines where we were stuck for 3 days due to mechanical problems. Worst communications and customer care services ever. I vowed never to fly with them again!

I posted this a while back... so here it is again!

When I flew back from Paris last November, I made my connection to Seattle in Dallas. On the plane from Dallas to Seattle I was seated next to a couple in their 50s. They chatted with me and told me they were coming back home to Seattle after a trip to New Orleans where they had "partied". I thought that was rather odd just due to their ages and appearance, but I decided not to judge just because NOLA is known for it's fun atmosphere and people letting their hair down...

As the trip progressed, the woman kept getting too friendly with me in terms physical contact...touching my arm and leg while she was talking to me... then she proceeded to tell me that her and her boyfriend were "swingers"... I could see where that was going....
wtf.gif

I might also add that they both looked like TROLLS so the thought of them, uhhhhh.... "swinging" totally grossed me out.... in any event I found the opportunity to move to the back of the plane where there were three seats empty. I told the woman that I was exhausted from the 10 hour flight from Paris and needed more room so I could sleep. (Which was true...) I was so relieved to get away from them. The man was reading some pornographic book with a really offensive title and he looked like a combination of Paul Williams and Kenny Rogers...

I was soooo tired from the Paris flight and I just could not believe I ended up next to these two people.

I can also tell stories about lost luggage and air sickness.. delays.... etc....

Unfortunately air travel these days is really public transportation, so you gotta be prepared for anything and EVERYTHING.

I'm generally as tolerant as possible because I'm pretty positive that the pilots, airlines and flight crew don't want to be sitting on the ground either, so the typical delays I'm pretty cool with... but the worst flight experience I've ever had was this past October.

Flying from Chicago to DC. Supposed to get in at 4pm. Board the flight late, fine, no problem, flight is instead going to get in at 5:30, I'll deal with it. Flight is fine... get to Reagan Nat'l Airport... circling... starts to go down for landing, comes up suddenly... try number two to land... comes up suddenly... then they make an announcement that they can't see the runway and they're going to try a couple more times... so lots more circling and two more tries later (total of 4 attempted landings) they pull us up and say we're headed to Dulles airport. Which I DESPISE... so we land at Dulles airport and they won't let anyone off the plane! Apparently we were not approved to land there so no one could get off. They were talking about having us sit there and then flying BACK to national airport... eventually they let us off if we agreed to go to National to pick up our luggage because the plane was going to fly back there. I packed carry on and figured I'd super shuttle it to my friend's house... which was the super shuttle ride from hell... and it was just an all around horrible trip, but I guess I made it safely.

Worst flight experience ever.

This was September 2001, Labor Day weekend, my aunt, sister and I flew from Regan National Airport in DC to NY (upstate, Albany). It was a surprise weekend trip to visit my grandparents. My parents sat around watiing for our plane to board and we finally told them to go ahead and leave. 5 hours later we FINALLY boarded! They had delayed us because of T-storms in NY. We arrived around 12 am, not a drop of rain in sight.

Come back that Monday, get into washington with no delays. Get off the plane, my parents are sitting there. The whole place is on lock down. After sitting aroun for like...2 hours, they finally let us leave, back ways, thru airport luggage.

I found out on the news later that we were on lockdown because some stupid stupid man brought a grenade paper wieght in DC and put it in his carry on luggage. And of course we all know what happened! They thought it was real and took precaution! I never found out what happened to him but I bet he either A) doesn't fly anymore, or, B) learned his lesson!

Less than 10 days later 9/11 happened. It was a really bad month for airport security...*sigh*

Alrighty I got a few.

A few summers ago BF and I went to Mexico. On our way back we had a stopover in Denver. Barely caught the plane, we were like the last people to board the plane. Huge massive 747, we were just going to SFO! Anyway, after sitting there for awhile at the gate they announce that the flight in canceled due to mechanical problems. What?! I was scared s*htless! So, imagine a couple hundred people running off the plane through the airport toward the United Customer Service gate. We waited like an hour in line only to be put up at a crappy truckers hotel somewhere in the middle of Colorado with food vouchers. The people in the hotel room next to us stayed up screaming all night, and we finally got to SFO the next day around 11. Not thrilled.

The second time to the big island of Hawaii we flew United and had a connection in Maui. Our first flight was delayed so they told us once we landed in Maui to inquire about our bags. We were told that they were going to be put on another flight to the big island that day and they would be delivered to us. Yeah, that didn't happen. My bag got LOST - I went 3 days without my baggage - so what do we do? Head to WALMART. I had to buy toothpaste/toothbrush, undies, deodorant at a walmart when I am on vacation in HAWAII. And then - on my way back, they were trying to tell me that I wasn't booked in first class and had to pay $1000 extra. UGH UNITED :|

That's all for now.. :P

m trip to maui last july.....we were supposed o fly thry chicago then to maui, we got delayed in newark ont he runway for 2.5 hours, then when we got to chicago we missed or flight to maui, so they needed to get us on a plane to LAX where i had to sit alone in coach in the middle of two weirdo's, when we get to LAX they tell us our flight isnt for 4 hours, so we go to chilis and they tell us their credit card machine was down we had to wait to eat, the plane coming in was delayed for 3 hrs, it finally came and we boarded, then they said we werent cleared for takeoff bc there was problems with the plane, byt his time it was like 12AM then after waiting on the plane for an hour they told us that we couldnt go and we had to get off the plane and wait until they flew another one up from texas, so we waited for another few hours, some guy in the terminal freaks out and they have to ARREST him, he was supposed to be on our flight, all in all our travel day when we arrived to maui was 26 hrs long:crybaby: and then they gave us the wrong room at the hotel and i had a hissy fit bc i hit my breakin point....but after that it was a great vacation:okay:

My story is from my first time ever on a plane.

It was one of those little commuter planes, and the flight attendant came back to us before we took off and told my two uncles to move to the other side TO BALANCE THE PLANE. Not what I wanted to hear the first time ever on a plane! :wtf: But we made it in one piece!

LMAO!

I don't have any stories that bad . . . but I puke on planes large and small, turbulence or not. I finally developed a cocktail of Ativan and meclizine (aka Bonine) which keeps both the anxiety and the vomiting in check. Also if I keep my stomach full that helps, so lots of carby fatty snacks in my bag.

Going to Vegas I was flying from a local UK airport to Heathrow to LAX to Vegas anyway..........

Get's on the first plane and after awhile hear a big thud turns out the baggage handelling truck had driven INTO the plane and damaged it so it could not fly, no extra planes to be had stood in a que for 2 hours to have flights rearranged all of a sudden lots of seats to Heathrow become available with another airline and a different local ariport so we get put on to that flight and given a taxi to that airport.

At arrival at new airport we find out that the reason all the extra seats are available is because that flight was actually cancelled and as we where not booked with that airline we where not their problem. Eventually they agree to put us on stand by for another flight. There is a budget airline flight to London before this one is we wait for standby and don't get on we can't make our connection and will not get re-arranged again because they provided an alternative already.
So we decided just to pay for seats on the budget airline, this gets us in at the wrong airport so across London journey is needed (new fligh & taxi total £300)

We make it to Heathrow just in time for the connection which is now taking us to Canada (-20 degrees) instead of LAX (not dressed of this change of plan LOL). Immigration would not let me & my BF go through together they sent me one way & him the other I'm waiting & waiting & waiting and no sign of him I'm getting really worried (and imaging people snapping on rubber gloves) because I take care of all travel details his memory is shocking and he doesn't pay attention so if they ask him questions he won't be able to answer them.
I've now been travelling for over 24 hours I'm tired, frustrated and crying like a baby because my BF is missing and I'm imaging being him being sent home, eventually I meet up with him again he was just waiting in a different area totally fine.

Stayed in the airport over night because it was sofa king cold outside it literally took your bnreathe away I couldn't wait for a mini bus to take me to a hotel (and we only had a 6 hours by the time we'd have to come back) I have NEVER been so cold in my life

Flight to vegas (eventually) we sit next to the emergency exit I am freezing the entire flight because the door has a draught yes that's right a draught how it happened without us all being suck out I don't know.

Finally get to Vegas a day late to torential downpours and the streets are flooded can't get to the "bus" entrance because of the flooding so have to walk down the street in the RAIN with my LV luggage!

Bad bad journey but great holiday!

LOL, Jill, could just see you strolling in with that coffee and people giving you the evils...

And I've had some bad flights in my time, a 17 hour flight from London to Australia with a screaming 13 month old nearly finished me off...

Circling Philly for 2/12 hours... It was NOT a pretty sight when I was air sick! My first solo flight to Poconos!

Oh, and before take off from SF circling the Bay Area for 45 minutes to be told over the intercom "We will be heading back to the SF Intl... It seems like we have lost an engine...":wtf:
