Hello everyone! I just bought my first vca piece a couple of days ago, an onyx vintage albambra pendant necklace. After watching a youtube video about the “shake test” I realized my pendant does make a small rattling noise when I shake it. I also noticed these air lines/gaps only when I hold it up to the light (not visible when worn or just looking at it without holding against the light). I also saw a thread here where it seems like this is more the norm these days (some people went in to exchange and found that all new pieces have gaps). Can someone talk me down from my panic 😅 Is my stone going to fall out over time because it’s loose? Should I just stop worrying about it and wear it? Thank you so much!!

If you can see it without putting a source of light behind it, then its a problem. Otherwise it's normal.

I don’t notice any gaps when I wear it or when I look at the pendant up close! Only when I hold it up to the light, I see those gaps.
It’s good that it’s not visible when you wear it. If it does bother you along with the rattling sound, you should definitely exchange it. It’s very expensive and you have the right to want a piece that makes you feel at ease.

Thank you everyone for assuring me that this is normal! I tried the shake test again and realized the rattling was probably the sound of the chains in my hand 🤦🏻‍♀️ freaked out for nothing but so grateful to my TPFers for your input!!

I was told by my SA that due to differenr weight of stones, it is normal for onyx stone pieces to make some rattling sound (from chain)

I dont hear that sound from my MOP 5 motif previously but i do with my onyx 5 motif

Bought new from the boutique! It was interesting because my SA was literally telling me she has people bringing their MOP pendants in for repair because they have shrunk and are rattling around (she was warning me not to get MOP wet since I was considering that option).

MOP is known to be a more fragile stone. I don't wear my necklace or earrings 24/7. I have two MOP bracelets that I just started wearing 24/7 because they are hard to get on and off. I'll see how they hold up.
