Age of your bag? How do you know?

lovely experts!
i am dying to know...since I purchased my beautiful worn in bag on ebay - she is a beautiful black twiggy - but for some reason this re-seller did not know the age. (not original owner selling but more just reputable re-seller store) anyways - they say because black was made every season she did not know the age :( but I have stared and stared at enough pics to know it was a pretty good one. annnyways...how can I guess the age?
the tag on the inside is leather not metal - and the leather feels pretty smushy to me. but are there any other clues????

did the bag come with any paper tag? the first 4 digits from the left would indicate the year. pls go to the reference library sub-forum for more details. search function is down but you can easily find the title/s that says "paper tag info" or someth like that.

Twiggy is a tricky girl to age because of the leather tag. The easiest way to tell if she is F/W of 04 or older vs. S/S of 05 or newer is to count the whip stitches on the handle. There are two "flat" stitches right at the bottom and newer Twiggys have 16 diagonal stitches between the two flat ones, older Twiggys have 20 stitches between the two flat ones. The handle on the older ones is slightly longer because of this. Other than this I don't know of a way to date a Twiggy to a specific year/ season. There are other ways (rivets, way the tassels are tied, measurements of studs, measurement of "smiley face" under the front zip), but those can be inconsistent, unlike the handle length.

ok - she has 16 stiches , so she is not before 04 (which I didn't think she was...)
but she didn't come with a paper tag - so I am out of luck there... oh well I guess I should just enjoy her for what she is , despite what her age may be;)

congrats on your new black twiggy! unfortunately it's difficult to tell what year your bag is from considering they make black every year. as long as you love her! :tup:
