I’ve been pouring over most of the designer offerings and can’t make a decision to treat myself. So I am hoping a few purse aficionados will make some suggestions. I know age is just a number but at 65 years I no longer need to follow trends and since I am retired “ a work bag to fit a laptop” is not it. I could list the styles I like however I may be limiting my options. So here are some criteria: I live in Florida so lightweight ( leather) top handle with a single strap long enough to go over shoulder. Or Top handle only. I’m 5’8” and plus-size so no mini/small. Budget? $4000 max!! Thanks

Congrats on retirement! Sounds like time to treat yourself to a classic luxury bag! Sadly though, most premier designer offerings are over the $4000 mark - crazy! :yucky: You could consider gently preloved or sales on seasonal bags.

Some styles of classic shoulder bags that come to mind are the Gucci Jackie and the BV intrecciato hobo style. A couple of newer bags that are timeless in terms of style imho and within budget are the YSL 5 a 7 supple and the new Celine Camille soft in medium - gorgeous !

I don't know about "age appropriate", wear and carry whatever you love and makes you smile.
Have you looked at Loewe? They have classics like the Puzzle and Flamenco. Both available in different sizes and colors. They have other gorgeous bags, too.
Indie brand Tsatsas comes to mind as well. Amazing leathers, superb quality for a fraction of your max budget.
Givenchy also makes classic looking bags in very good quality.
How about a bespoke bag? Marco Massaccesi, Mila Jito, Peter Nitz for example. The latter two may be "slightly" out of budget, not 100% certain...
I'm sure you'll get bombarded with suggestions to choose from. Good luck hunting and let us know what you decide on! 🍀

Thank you, so many brands I’m not familiar. I have the Givenchy Antigona soft and sadly it was an impulse buy a few years ago. Can be heavy and a dark abyss when trying to find things. I will research and report.

Gotta to have a Chanel, best - medium double flap, minimalist- Wallet on chain; LV has too many choices, very much depends on what you use it for. Hermes - Evelyne 29

LV I agree. Chanel classic beyond a treat! Can’t agree with constant price increases…..on principle. Because I want to treat myself it must be new so I wouldn’t and have never considered pre-loved. ( gives me bad luck vibes )

WOW I just checked the site. Beautiful bags. I like the mirus as well as the Wanderer. Sadly it is over what I want to spend. I understand custom orders would cost more but the wait time is not worth it for a daily. The materials and workmanship seem to be on par with Hermes. Maybe one day. Thank you for introducing me to this brand.

I know you mentioned a certain budget, but you also referred to Chanel as a real treat. It sounds like Chanel gives you that special feeling you were looking for. You might find a beautiful seasonal bag with a top handle and strap that gives off a Classic Flap (CF) vibe in the $5K–$6K range. I’ve also seen some options around $4.5K if you're open to being flexible with styles.
