I would like to buy vintage bags, but most of them are in japan (yahoo.jp)
or through an auction house in France. How do I go about buying through
either venue? I see quite a few bags in Japan and obviously can not translate.....any suggestions?

hi Cody, vintage bags are not uncommon when buying Hermes. For resellers, I suggest you to give a look at the reputable sellers list. I see you're based in New York, if you do a search you'll surely find some vintage shops there (Decades maybe? I'm not sure because I've never been there).
As for auctions, Artcurial's Hermes sale is probably the most important. It's usually held in May and November in Paris, and you can also place absentee bids. Some of our TPFers bought H items at this auction. If you do a search you'll find some posts.

Thank you so much for the response and advise. I thought that most of the auction houses in Paris do not ship? I have found some fabulous bags, but the logistics of buying them seem to be a bit tricky. Have you ever purchased from Japan?
Decades is in California and London (but love the website)!!!

oh sorry! I had the Decades name in my mind and didn't check if it was in NY.
Auction houses can arrange a shipment to you if you contact them, but I personally have never bought from an auction house so I don't know the costs. Otherwise you can contact your local shipper and arrange shipment with them ( I think this best works if you a have an agreement with a shipper).
I've personally bought from Japan both through Ebay and a private seller and it worked great - they both shipped with EMS which is fast and reliable, it only took 1 week for my bags to get from Japan to Italy.
If you're interested in any particular bag you may find on the web, I suggest you to have it authenticated from our beloved gals in the authentication forum, so that you don't waste your hard earned money in a fake.
