Advice on Sizing

Hi there. My engagement ring is kind of big on me, at a size 4. I have one of those strips inside which makes it more secure, but even still its a bit loose. The problem is my knuckle is bigger than the base of my finger which happens to be tiny. Anyone have this problem? So a ring needs to fit over my knuckle so can be too small but then its moving around on my finger too much. Any advice? Im debating on resizing to 3.75.

I'd make sure it's comfortable to get over you knuckle before sizing down. Try a band with it to see if that will help. My ering is much tighter when I'm wearing my wedding band.

I have a knuckle that is nearly a full size bigger than my finger (as in 6.5 at the knuckle, 5.25 at the finger!) and I have sizing beads in my ring which I have sized at a 6 currently. I need windex to get it on or off usually though. When I added my wedding ring, that totally helped, as it pushed the e-ring up on my finger a hair. Unfortunately there's very little you can do, because if you size it down too much you might not be able to get it on or off very easily. And you don't want that.

Try it on with a band first. How snug is it on your knuckle? Is it REALLY tight or is it smooth? If it's smooth, I'd go down no more than 1/4 size. If it's really tight, do nothing right now. Fingers will fluctuate with seasons, with times of day. Mine are ridiculous in the morning and evening, and after I work out. But sometimes are ridiculously slim and lovely and my rings flip around like crazy. I am used to it. It did bug the hell out of me at first.

Another option...IF you can wear gold or if your ring is gold: a Horseshoe sizer. It will bend/flex with your finger. They'll size your ring UP a size, put that in, and then it will fit perfectly to your finger as the day goes by. Here's an image of that:

Have you worn your ring in all seasons yet? Mine has been big since I got it (late February), even with sizing beads in it. I've been waiting to get it sized though until the end of summer, just so I know how my fingers will swell with the heat. Now that I've waited, I can tell it's still definitely at least a little too big so I think I'm going to have to take it back in and get it sized down a tiny bit.

That being said, I would definitely recommend sizing beads or even the horseshoe sizer ame mentioned.

I have that little strip inside which makes it smaller. So at this point, it is not super easy to take off/ put on over my knuckle. kind of just right, but at the base of my finger it still moves a lot. Maybe I should wait and see. Sometimes when my fingers swell a little it fits perfect and other times its moving around a lot! Will wait and see for now! :)

Leave it. It sounds like it fits perfectly. You want to be able to get on and off without ripping up your knuckle but if you go smaller you won't be able to wear it in the summer.

My Ering is a little snug and I'm debating resizing it... I'd like to try to loose some weight to see if that helps. Its just a little snug now & I feel like it looks like I have sausage fingers w it on. I dont want to go bigger (currently size 6) bc I don't want my diamond to look smaller...=/ ugh

Thanks ladies. I think I will leave it alone for now. Plus if I get pregnant at some point, I can always take the strip out and have a little room for swelling!

Alexa maybe just try drinking some more water if you are retaining water and you get rid of some of it your fingers may go down some and the ring will fit better!

resizing wouldnt make the diamond look smaller. its the size of ur finger that affects how big the diamond looks, not the physical ring size. the ring size is just a number assigned to how big ur finger is. regardless of whether u resize it, its going to look the same as it does now...well minus the "sausage fingers"

Sometimes you can get the bottom "squared off" a little to keep it from spinning. Talk to your jeweler about that instead of sizing down. I have the same problem, knuckle much bigger than finger.

^I've seen that on rings too.

See, my issue isn't the spinning, I don't mind that. It's the fact that when my fingers get wet it feels like my ring is going to slide off. It makes me so nervous!

Yeah my issue isnt so much the spinning but just the moving around on my finger. But I am not worried it will come off - the strip secures that even if my hands are wet and have soap on them it wont come over my knuckle!
