Hello all,

Newbie here looking for some advice on my engagement ring purchase. I've done some research and narrowed it down to these 2 tiffany rings. They don't have the rings in store so I cannot physically inspect them. Below are the specs. I need to put a deposit down before they will retrieve the rings from overseas.

Any advice on which one of 2 will have a more brilliant sparkle based on these proportions they provided? Thanks for help.

A) Diamond 1 (.85ct, G VVS2)
Depth 62.8% Table 55% Crown Height 15.6% Crown Angle 34.8 Star Length 52% Pavillion Depth 43.6 Pavillion Angle 41.1 Lower Half Length 78.0% Girdle medium to slightly thick Culet none

B) Diamond 2 (.88ct, G VS2)
Depth 60.7% Table 59% Crown Height 13.9% Crown Angle 33.7 Star Length 59% Pavillion Depth 42.9% Pavillion Angle 40.8 Lower Half Length 75% Culet none

I'd say go for the cheaper one. Well, millennials are ditching engagement rings all together, according to this 2019 ABC (US) article: https://www.abc27.com/news/consumer...nnials-are-ditching-diamond-engagement-rings/

I am not a gemologist so looking at these specs doesn't mean much to me. Too technical and I don't have the knowledge nor the understanding. And honestly, no normal person could tell unless they were an expert. I think I had only one person comment on my engagement ring and he was my former SA and because he used to work at a diamond store, he appreciated the clarity of the stone.

I mostly focus on color and clarity when looking at diamond specs. Shape does matter as well, and depending on the shape, the cut will be different based on what is ideal for each shape.
Are you going for the classic round shape?

Furthermore, each jewelry store has its preference on diamond cutting. I have heard that Tiffany tends to cut its diamonds in a way that reveals more sparkle but that may cause the diamond to be more shallow.

And then at the end of the day, I need to see and wear the diamond itself to make a decision. I know you said that they don't have the specific rings in store. Was there anything similar that they showed you? If they didn't show you anything I'm sure you could ask.
Tiffany is known for its diamonds, especially engagement/wedding rings. I would be surprised if they weren't able to show you something with similar specs or the same specs but different carat size.

Just for fun, take the budget for the Tiffany cheaper one, then look and see what size of A Cut Above diamond from Whiteflash you can get for the same price. Honestly, I think the cutting and sparkle will be better and it will be Much Bigger. They can put it in a Tiffany repro setting. And no one else will know the difference. I wouldn’t buy either of those diamonds- first one is too deep and the second has a big table.

Thanks guys.

It is a round diamond. I did look at another one of different carat size and specs in the store, I liked it and will be purchasing it. However they didn't have anything in my budget in the store. I gave them my minimum specs (e.g. VS2, G, budget etc) and they came back with a few diamond rings. I narrowed it down to those 2 round brilliant diamonds, so I'm trying to decide between the 2.

I think I will go with the .88ct one. I've paid the deposit so they will ship the ring down now

Thank you for all the inputs and opinions.

Agreed. My ring upgrade is ACA from Whiteflash and I have the Vatche U113 setting. At both Cartier and Tiffany have commented how beautiful it is and twice Tiffany SA’s have thought it was theirs. I have plugged in on the Tiffany site my specs and mine was less than half the cost. I only got it 2 years ago as well and bought via internet as I live in Canada and Whiteflash is in the Houston area.

You will love it, it is a good choice .88ct and don't forget to post a pic of your beauty

I would not choose either. First one is too deep (meaning it will show up smaller than it is since diamonds go by grams and the first one has a lot of its weight towards the depth) and a second one is 60/60, flat but might be a better choice - will be brighter rather than "fire-y" if you will. I would definitely choose a cut over color or clarity. If you are set on Tiffany, I would choose specs that are suggested above. I would also buy an Ideal Scope for a peace of mind and use that when buying diamonds. Cut (how diamond reflects the light) is everything and Tiffany does not mean best cut. You just pay for a brand.
